English programs for Children
Hey does anyone know of English programs for children... I have a cousin visiting for about 3 months... He is 12 and does not speak English... We are currently brining him to a boys and girls club in hopes he will learn some English naturally... But he doesn't like it because he can't communicate... Are their programs that just teach English for foreign children in Nassau County... Should I ask my school district if they have a program for him a couple days of week... He is on vacation here, we will travel a little so we don't just want to enroll him in a school for three months... any part time programs to help him with english...

If he is on vacation, perhaps you should let him enjoy his vacation and not take up his time by having him sit in a classroom learning. Vacations are for recreation and leisure and should be enjoyed. Take him to NYC, show him the skating rink and maybe skate...Bryant Park is free. if I was 12, the last thing I would want to do is take a class or sit through a program

I'm not aware of any "casual" English programs for children for so short of a duration - I seriously doubt one exists. I'm in agreement with the prior poster, let the child enjoy his vacation by experiencing NY. He'll certainly pick up vocabulary and phrases during his time here, and further acquire the motivation to study the English language formally once he returns to his homeland.

Ask the school district. They sometimes offer clubs and other types of socialization programs for English language learners. Where do you live? Or get a tutor.....

I'd love to know who offers this for non-enrolled kids.
OP what language are we talking about? If he can't play the games the other kids are playing at Boys and Girls Club I'm wondering if there are cultural barriers as well.
