For those who may not be familiar with Wantagh:
Wantagh is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southeast section of the Town of Hempstead, in the southeast part of Nassau County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Wantagh in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of North Wantagh; on the east by the Hamlet of Seaford; on the south by the East Bay; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Bellmore and the Hamlet of North Bellmore.
The Hamlet of Wantagh has a different border than does the "Wantagh, NY 11793" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Wantagh, NY 11793" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Wantagh): places that have a "Wantagh, NY 11793" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Wantagh are in the Hamlet of Seaford, the Hamlet of Bellmore, the Hamlet of North Bellmore, the Hamlet of North Wantagh and the Hamlet of Levittown.

Previously known as Smithville South, North Bellmore is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the east-center section of the Town of Hempstead, in the central-south part of Nassau County
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of North Bellmore in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of East Meadow; on the east by the Hamlet of North Wantagh and the Hamlet of Wantagh; on the south by the Hamlet of Bellmore; and, on the west by the Hamlet of North Merrick.
North Bellmore is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of North Bellmore have a "Bellmore, NY 11710", "Wantagh, NY 11793" and "Merrick, NY 11566" mailing address.

I live in wantagh now and I grew up in what I guess is now north bellmore, although my mother always said it was always bellmore. I'm not as familiar with seaford, besides it being over there.
1) bellmore and north bellmore can be nice, or not so nice depending on the area. There are some shadier areas than others.
2) School districts are important. North bellmore schools aren't as good as bellmore schools. Seaford can be in wantagh, plainedge or maybe even massapeqa districts.
Having looked at houses in the area, Wantagh with wantagh schools and Merrick I think are slightly nicer then bellmore with bellmore schools, then seaford and north bellmore.
Do I think any of them are bad? no. You do have to be careful where in the towns you buy, as not all the areas are nice.

According to my map of school districts, the Hamlet of Seaford is solely within the Seaford Union Free School District.
Bear in mind, the Hamlet of Seaford (1,758 acres) is a smaller area than the "Seaford, NY 11783" ZIP Code postal zone (3,942 acres, including 160 acres in the Town of Oyster Bay), and many places that have a "Seaford, NY 11783" mailing address are not in Seaford, and it's these areas that are not in the Hamlet of Seaford but have a "Seaford, NY 11783" mailing address that are in these other school districts.
For those who may not be familiar with Seaford:
Seaford is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the extreme southeast section of the Town of Hempstead, in the southeast part of Nassau County, along the Hempstead/Oyster Bay town line.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Seaford in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of North Wantagh; on the east by the Hamlet of Massapequa, Town of Oyster Bay (the Hempstead/Oyster Bay town line); on the south by Zachs Bay; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Wantagh.
Seaford is one of those villages and hamlets on Long Island where the majority of the places with the community name as part of their mailing address are not in the hamlet: places that have a "Seaford, NY 11783" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Seaford are in the Hamlet of North Wantagh and the Hamlet of Levittown in the Town of Hempstead and in the Hamlet of North Massapequa and the Hamlet of Plainedge in the Town of Oyster Bay.

I grew up in North Bellmore; however, I always considered it regular Bellmore. I thought the schools were horrendous. A LOT of tax dollars per pupil but NOT spent on them.
Plus, you have a BIG difference in high schools, Kennedy, Mepham or Calhoun. Be prepared to have money if Kennedy is your school.
I am married and used to live in the "Woods" section of Wantagh as newlyweds, with Wantagh schools. I absolutely adore it. Seaford is fantastic too. At least Wantagh and Seaford have only one high school.

I currently live in Seaford, and I do really like it. I think people may have been turned off to Seaford because they had 1/2 day kindergarten, but that has changed come Sept '08. We will have full day this year. It is a small town where you really get to know everyone which is very nice. Coming from a small town myself I like the idea of a small town where there is one High school and one Middle School. If you look up Seaford School Ditrict the numbers are very good compared to other districts in the area.

My Grandmother and Uncle lived in South Bellmore on the water and I loved going there as a child. Very safe and still is South of Merrick RD, I have not spent a lot of time in North Bellmore except to go to the movies there with my kids when I visit now from Massachusetts. If you move to this area, you better like traffic!

I have lived in Bellmore for the last 26 years and it has gone downhill very rapidly. There is a lot of bad press nowadays with the town. A lot of gang-related activitiy...and Mepham is such a terrible school.

I grew up there and you are confirming my fears, its very sad. Strange that Merrick and Wantagh have stood fast and Bellmore is slipping.
South of Merrick road will always stay nice, I hope!
