Right now it is 81 degrees in Miami, it is also 81 in Jacksonville.
Tampa is 82 and Orlando is 83.
There is little variance in weather in FL throughout most of the year.
The only time you will see any variety is for a couple of months in the winter.
And FL is the flattest state I have ever seen.
You need to travel more. Most of the Ohio valley and midwest are way flatter than Florida. Drive from NYC to Chicago and you might not see a single hill after western New Jersey. Just farmland...flat as the eye can see.
Florida has the Ocala National forest. Central Florida is mostly hills and lakes.
Every place has it's pros and cons. I have friend's who have moved to Florida and are happy as clams. They don't live paycheck to paycheck on $150k/yr like they did here. They have breathing room and lower stress.
Other's hate it. I know going in (becasue I do my diligence) that I would be fine. My wife would be utterly miserable. Thus we stay (and pay and pay and pay). Working to stand still here on "wonderful" LI.

I lived in Indiana as a kid. Oh, yeah, it's as flat as Florida, BUT the scenery changes in Indiana whereas in Florida it's the same all year, GREEN. Boring. I actually LIKE the changes that 4 Seasons give you. Christmas here feels the same as the 4th of July.
I have noticed a pattern with people leaving. Women, though not ALL, seem to be the ones who either don't want to move to Florida, or want to leave. I didn't want to come here, and want to go back to LI. Perhaps women miss their families more than men do? I think that alone would reflect the difference. On the trival side of this, perhaps women like the change in seasons because they can have different wardrobes? lol Again, it gets very BORING wearing nothing but summer clothes year round. My husband could care less about that.
My daughter is going pumpkin picking and to Bryermier (?) Farms for pies on the East End this weekend. Oh, I so miss doing that. They have kept up the tradition we made when they were kids. I would go WITH them. Nothing like that here. She won tickets to that one day Studio 54 tribute in Manhattan. Can you do something like that in Florida? Not even close. What can you do in Florida? Beaches, golf, SUMMER activities. That is it. Nothing changes because the seasons don't.
Personally, I would rather struggle on LI where I can be near my kids, and have my 4 Seasons, than be a millionaire in Florida. All that money couldn't buy me the aforementioned.

Exactly. My wife wants to pick pumpkins, do Xmas crap and be near broke despite working our a&&es off. I want to have money in the bank, fish in January and wear shorts all year long. It's that Venus/Mars thing. Venus wins! LOL

Yes beach, golf, fishing, boating, camping, tennis, biking all year round must suck No snow to shovel, no traffic, slower pace, amazing beaches. Open air restaurants on the beach, fine art galleries, great shopping, ..........
A few years ago I stayed @ La Playa Resort.. What a beautiful place The whole family had a wonderful time.
Why don't you start appreciating what you do have instead of complaining all the time.
I can't stand people that complain all the time, or the 'poor me complex'
4 years do something about it, talk is cheap!
I'd rather know it all than not even know NY at all (from your post on the previous page).. I have nothing against old people. Sorry if I offended you. My age demo is not the one setting up 55+ age-restricted-communities all across the country by the way. We should be asking them what they have against young families.
Please don't take me so literally but it's mostly a retiree state...is it not?
I still don't get the rubberneck exorcist type stare when youre driving next to a FL driver.
Don't knock the Villages...my brother lives there. I have visited that Geriatric Disneyland several times. It's not bad at all. They have Happy Hour everyday from 4 to 8pm, entertainment at their town squares (ok, they are 70 year old cheerleaders doign their thing..but what can you expect)....and...
there is nothing like sitting at a bar, being in your 50s and have half a dozen, 70+ year old ladies with orange hair and bright red lipstick make eyes at you. It's best to be quite drunk when it happens.

You're right -- people should appreciate what they have where they are.
With so much of this thread, it really depends on the person and what they like. My family left for Florida and are happy -- my sister misses her friends in NY but has made friends there. My niece and nephew were born there and have no idea what a snowy winter is like, how much fun a snow day can be. My BIL loved the water, so for him it's an idea fit. It's more affordable everyone of them.
I am more of the cold weather type, so while the things you list might be appealing to some, I prefer suiting up and spending a day on my snowmobile with apres snowmachine wine as opposed to sweating on the beach. During the hot months, I prefer the beach late day/evening. Some surfcasting at Democrat Point or hanging with the girls at West Meadow to watch the sunset is very pleasant.
Once -- never again -- I visited my family in northern Florida in July. The combo of heat and humidity was personally unbearable. But that's just me.
Moved from Texas to NY.... was okay with the heat, hated the cold.... now... hate the heat, tolerates the cold !! Important thing.... wherever you are... "get a life"... everybody has fond memories of the place you left behind (or the only place you ever knew, jeez !!), just don't oversell the place you just moved to after careful consideration (hopefully !), don't be a chicken and run back to daddy's arms without giving it a chance.
How many people are here who moved back to LI too soon from wherever they went ? Suckers, they deserve it !
I also would like to hear from anyone that moved to Fl and back to LI. I moved to Fl about 15 years ago with my parents. I am now married with twin boys and we are thinking about coming back to give the boys a better education and so they can be near their family and lots of new cousins who are their age. I'd like to know if you think it is a feasible move as I know the cost of living is so much up there. We have a really nice house here in Fl. I have an MBA, but have been working in child welfare for the past 7 years because I can't find anything that would allow me to use my MBA. My husband has 2 years left in school and he will have an Engineering degree. Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, I have lived in 5 states and have driven across the US about 4 times. I probably should have said states that I have lived in.
And as another poster said at least those states look different at various times during the year.
Sorry FL has very few hills, you make is sound like the Catskills.
And stress free? Your family must live in the boonies.
FL is the very stressful to drive in.
For example US 19(one of the most deadliest highways in the US) is similar to Sunrise Highway.
The difference is there are no service roads, people pull right out on the highway from strip malls located on both sides and they also make u-turns.
They also don't seem to know when it starts to get dark that it is time to turn on your headlights so that others can see you.

Everyday there are deadly crashes.
The roads have not kept up with the population.
Sorry, disagree across the board. Yes the midwest farmland has seasons...it is still some boring (but pretty) and extremely flat scenery. Nice for Norman Rockwell paintings.
Florida has a national forest. I don't know where I ever hinted it was like the Catskills. It has hills and lakes. That's what I said. It does. It is also very flat. Florida is a peninsula. It has a sub-tropical climate. Hard to compare that to a 4 season climate. I would think one would know that going in. If I moved to Puerto Rico, I'd expect the weather to be different than Indiana. Is this really a debate point?
The "stress" issue is about taxes and cost of living. There are 1000's of threads already explaining this. We can all agree that although wages are lower, the cost of living is lower and housing stocks MUCH nicer per cost and tax burden than LI.
Roads? They suck pretty much everywhere. LI's are completely outdated and drivers are notoriously bad. Florida is dealing with the same issues as Suffolk. Too quick growth with road infrastructure that hasn't kept pace. Florida is at least building toll roads that ease the flow. Austin and other southern cities are doing the same. LI does nothing. Widens a few roadways to add a lane here and there and adds an MTA tax and raises the bridge tolls (Verrazano now $13 bucks!!). Any $13 toll bridges down there?
Florida is annoyingly hot, lots of elderly folks and has an oddball culture from rednecks to transplanted yanks to parrotheads. It is also much cheaper, has newer and growing infrastructure, lower taxes (and no state income tax), a ripe for the picking housing market and some growth from relocating businesses. It also has great natural resources and water recreation.
Go, stay, whatever...everyone has to do what's best for them.
