"Cops receive free health care and up to five "blood days"—comp days for every time they donate blood. The total package, including fringe benefits and overtime, averages $202,400 per officer.
Last week, a state control board seized control of the finances in Nassau County. High spending on labor and an inability to negotiate labor concessions with the power-wielding police unions was a big reason why."
Experts say Nassau's large spending on police, even in tough economic times, is the product of cozy relationships between elected officials and the county's police unions, particularly the Police Benevolent Association."
Blood days? Five days off for giving blood!
I give blood for free. A little way to help society. I assumed everyone else who gives blood, does it for the same reason. Oh well, the center does give me one wee pack of oatmeal cookies!

Many posts just include a link to a news story with no analysis.
Nearly all of these links imply a need to smaller government, lower taxes, government employee envy.
It would be nice if these forums ended up grouped in larger national forums where they appear to belong.
