No way, J&R's really isn't good at all. I found it to be loaded with fat, and I've eaten there a few times. Ruths is waaaaay better.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I'm feeling chatty so I apologize if my points have been mentioned (or beaten to death). Here goes:
Pros:
beaches, places with that New England fishing village feel, being near water no matter where you live, lots of shopping and food choices, proximity to the city (even though I go only when there's a good band playing or something), history, cool old homes, driving through really wealthy areas like Sands Point oohing and ahhing, decent music scene, nature
Cons:
waaaaaay too crowded!!!!! long and gloomy winters (total deal-breaker for me), expense, not enough wildlife for my taste, a 'keeping up with the joneses' mentality among some people (but I suppose that can be found anywhere)
I'm looking to move. I know my pros outweigh my cons and I do see a lot of beauty on this island, but after traveling a bit I've realized there is an elsewhere that is better suited to my needs. I certainly wouldn't discourage anyone from moving here if they are able to afford it.

I left
So, for me, the cons outweigh the pros.
The main thing is: you have to drive everywhere. The public transit is just terrible, some places nonexistent. Now that I live in the city, I can take a pleasant stroll down to the grocery store, if I find I need a quart of milk or something. Out there, it's often a 40 minute hike to the store.
There is also a kind of weird provincial attitude that I did not care for. It isn't shared by everyone (I date a LI lady; I almost married one) but it's pervasive enough to be irritating.

Are you kidding me? Your comments reflect a vile, misogynist, racist and inaccurate world view. Good luck with that!
Cons: Men who are sexist and racist and judge people by vain standards.
