You don't need a license for a rifle or shotgun on Long Island.

The NRA provides lots of info to wacky gun fetishists, no doubt.

I dont see the democratics making videos and websites on how the only way to get the democrats out of office is to shoot them.
Also keep in mind what bishop is asking is for it to become law AGAIN. there used to be ba ban that was let expire.

Finding the exact data your looking for is hard to do, best I was able to find is that 4 police officers were killed in the line of duty by their own guns. You can extrapolate that into 800,000 uniformed officers at various levels into a population of roughly 50,000,000 gun owners. That brings us to around 63 deaths/yr if we have any sort of proportionality
Your math is off here.

Not paranoid at all, but aware of what goes on around me. Good awareness and security go a long way from having to draw on someone.
BTW, I have a concealed carry permit and feel if I can't get it done with 16 I've made some very bad choices that day. For at home it's a simple 20 gauge Mossberg. Also why did you mention an automatic weapon?

Excellent! Many people walk around blindly and then are surprised when they run into trouble.
BTW, I'm going to recommend "Violence: A Writer's Guide By Sgt. Rory Miller".
It's an ebook just under $5 and an excellent primer to the subject even for non-writers. It's what I now recommend when teaching self defense.

This is not about writing technique. It is an introduction to the world of violence. To the parts that people don’t understand. The parts that books and movies get wrong. Not just the mechanics, but how people who live in a violent world think and feel about what they do and what they see done.

Here's Rory's blog.

People who have an obsession with guns.
guns are a tool meant to do a job. My dad always had a gun in the house growing up, and I'll probably have a shotgun in mine before long. However, there comes a point when the obsession with ownership of and knowledge of guns just gets..weird. It's obvious what a gun gives to the off kilter owner....power where they feel none in their lives otherwise.
This isn't all gun owners, of course, but the people who can recite every NRA talking point and own dozens of guns....that has nothing to do with protecting your family, sorry, it's an obsession with something that makes people feel powerful.

So gun collectors are fetishists?
Does that also go for car collectors?
