Does anyone have an accurate district map for the area?
I heard the Elementary and Middle schools are fine. I would be curious about the HS and the interaction with N Amityville.
(Gangs drugs etc)
Neat side note...theres actually a very strong Polish community there like Riverhead.
Shops Delis etc. plus all of the Boat dealers are down there too.
Dig a little deeper.Maybe some other locals could weigh in?
Crooks
Love the Polish food stores - especially the Bakery on Great Neck Road! Yummm...
The listing you posted is a short sale, has been on the market since June of last year and most likely will need either a cash buyer or a rehab loan.
Also, taxes are a whopping $8,100!!

Crooks, is this what you were asking for?
A map of the Hamlet of Copiague in the Town of Babylon, Suffolk County:
The Hamlet of Copiague has a different border than does the "Copiague, NY 11726" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Copiague, NY 11726" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Copiague and a place can have other than a "Copiague, NY 11726" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Copiague): places that have a "Copiague, NY 11726" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Copiague are in the Hamlet of North Amityville; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Copiague with an "Amityville, NY 11701" mailing address.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Copiague Union Free School District includes all or part of the Hamlet of East Farmingdale, the Hamlet of North Amityville, the Hamlet of North Lindenhurst, the Hamlet of Copiague and the Village of Amityville.

Elke: I'm half Polish so that's good. I realize you're speaking about Copiague, and that's nice to have nearby.
I see you lived in Babylon before, so I was wondering about Lindenhurst. Do they have decent resale value? i see they have some entry level homes we could afford, and realize the recession hit everything. Not looking to flip, but just wondering if it's a good investment.

Hi gag,
that bakery has several baked goods made with poppy seeds - something I grew up with in Germany and sorely miss Not far from tere, on Oak, is a deli with almost everything imported from Poland!
Regarding housing, value perception is better for Lindenhurst than for Copiague, partly because of the SD. Good investment? I suggest you buy a house to live in and enjoy and not focus so much on "investment". That's what us homeowners used to do. IMHO the RE market is going to be flat for some time (once it settles) and will increase slowly down the road - the way it used to, before 2000.
Value perception increases as you go East from Copiague (>Lindenhurst, >W. Babylon, >Babylon. After that it varies.
A lot will depend on who your neighbors are as well. When exploring specific areas, there's nothing wrong with knocking on people's door and asking them how they like the neighborhood. Not only do you get locals' opinion, but you also get to find out who lives there - and if you want them as neighbors
Thanks Elke, that's real good advice to check the local scene by knocking on doors. Just doesn't happen here in Chicago, but perhaps people are more open to it on LI. That would really help as long as they're honest.

Think of it this way - they're checking you out too as potential new neighbor and not everyone is going to be receptive - but more often than not, it works...
Out of curiosity, if theres no commute to NYC, other than price, is there something that youre hoping for by being in Southwest Suffolk?
I really think with the exception of Babylon Village youd do better in terms of QOL (and definitely value)with NE Brookhaven (Miller Place/Sound Beach/Rocky Point).
I like Lindenhurst if I was looking for a good value and a decent commute.
No commutes a very different story.
Crooks...will you ever stop trying to shine that NE Brookhaven lump of coal?
