I am looking for better places to live. I want to live in a Beautiful home in a really nice neighborhood. Perfect for my family- perfect for raising kids.

I was looking at the state of New York, looking for places like that.
I've found city's in the area surrounding Bethpage (Is that area nice?) Please Recommend areas for me. I've only looked there so far, And found out it's considered to be in "Long Island?"

But Be completely Honest with me! What do you Hate? Not like? About New York, Long Island, That area? Bethpage area? etc..
What do you like?

Also, do they have Hurricanes there? Floods? Tornadoes? Earth quakes?

Please write me back, thank you!

Bethpage is considered natural disaster center of the world, FYI.

We have family that live in Bethpage and Plainview and they love it there. My wife and I live in Levittown and we also love it. The bad part about Nassau County is the taxes. They are crazy high. I was paying $9200 for a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom home that was 1100 sq ft with no basement and was located on a 60X100 property. We just did a full dormer and got a letter from the assessment department saying our taxes were going up 25%.

If I lived out of state and I was moving to Long Island, I would probably move out east where the properties are bigger and the taxes are lower. Or I would move to Atlanta or the Carolinas

Scott

Bad: taxes, traffic and congestion
Good: schools, beaches, proximity to NYC

Ahem.

"On" Long Island.; )

Sorry small peeve.

I lived in SoCal for a while other than the Earthquakes and Snow in NY there are many similarities between LI and OC.

Whenever I come home to LI I really appreciate the value that we have here on LI. I think its a steal in comparison.

Pros: beaches, parks, wineries, farms, NYC a short train ride away, 3 major airports within 1/2 hour, schools, shopping, ferries to casinos, the ocean breeze all summer long & great food.

Cons: High taxes, traffic if you have a long drive to work, cold weather, have to pay tolls just to get off LI, alot of fake people.

Disagree with the schools (will explain later) and proximity to NYC.
Agree with the Bad.

For the amount of $$$ to keep up with the cost of living and taxes (bad) that you pay here to get the level of schools here on LI (agreed on schools being good), if you spend the same elsewhere, you could get to the same "if not better" schools.

Also because of the congestion (bad) the proximity (good) is subjective and is going to get worse in my opinion. Moreover NYC is not just surrounded by Long Island, you could have the same proximity and go North, South or west. The further east you go, the harder it is to justify "proximity".

The beaches.... yes I totally agree. Yay. But I go there only 2-3 times a year, so not a deal breaker.

It costs a lot to live here, so if you are making a lot of money, its worth a shot, financially its not the best bang for your $$$$, but hey who knows, you might find something quaint here that you cannot live without, then it may all make sense !!

If you have been watching the weather channel lately, you might have noticed that we have started to enjoy the 5 seasons here.
