Great Neck is very Jewish, it's a nice town but you certainly won't find diversity there. The only real diversity there is within the Jewish faith itself. Yes, if you are not Jewish you will have trouble fitting in there.
Manhasset/Plandome is nice but it is heavily skewed toward those who work in the financial services industry. So if you don't work on Wall Street it might not be the best fit.
Both Manhasset and Great Neck are definitely more stuffy than Port.
Port is the place for you! Wide variety of people working in a wide variety of occupations all at the right price. Why are you fighting it?

All good points. I guess I just wanted to make sure we explored all the opines before committing. We even spent a day driving around westchester the other day -- some really pretty towns and houses, but it just feels sort of secluded and remote to me (even though my commute from a place like Scarsdale or rye would be even better for my job near grant central). Port just seems to fit really well for us. Thanks again for all the info and advice.

You can ask The Community Synagogue, a Reform Congregation located in Sands Point ("Port Washington, NY 11050" mailing address).
