The store in Westbury will be closing making an already bleak Old Country Road look even worse. This isn't great for Westbury, esp with that struggling Source Mall.
The Commack store is also closing.
In other "cheery" economic news, The Waldbaums in Smithtown and Farmingdale is closing as well as the Pathmark in Commack.
Not suprised at the Smithtown Waldbaums, that place has been abit of a dive and is kinda small. Uncle Guiseppe's is much nicer and has a better selection and is much cleaner.
Yep, so many are closing that's it's sad. The one at Sunrise Mall also closed about a year ago.
Book Stores and Gyms are the LAST THING that should be closing in this day in age!!!
The problem is ppl "download" books onto those silly Kindle things nowadays.
I dont know how anyone could substitute Kindle for an actual book.
Today's generation is nuts.
I can get to look at yet another empty store in Westbury, its getting depressing. Fortunoff, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Ayhans Shish Kebab all gone along Old Country rd. What's next?
Eventually it'll all be empty with just some check cashing stores and bodegas. Lovely..
Well, Starbucks and DD might return and some of the other stores you listed will probably return but the era of Book Stores is probably over, what's going on now is VERY similar to the 1990's with the disappearance of video gaming arcades.

Well I still see some book stores doing quite well. While business has dropped off at the Westbury Borders which will be closing, the Riverhead one had very long lines in December and even in January.
It will be a sad day when people no longer read books.

I'd expect more to close. A&P is the Titanic, and their bankruptcy is only rearranging the deck chairs.
All I wanna know is, is there gonna be a clearance sale?
A lot of clearance sales are just horsecrap. They mark it up then cut it down from the marked up price. It may be different with bookstores, but who knows?
According to ehe Census Bureau's online address search function, located at 1260 Old Country Road, that Borders is in Salisbury ("Westbury, NY 11590" mailing address).

True. Daughter loves to read, thought it would be a good opportunity to get some books at a discount.
