I love the Carlls Straight Path area. Very peaceful! Talisman off Deer Park Avenue is very nice too and there are some homes for sale there as well. I love the Chasso Ct area too! Lots of great areas to chose from.

i wouldnt worry too much about the north/south thing-there are beautiful areas south of the lie-wilmington drive area, off burrs lane-all the elementary schools have a great reputation. i would prefer to be zoned for high school west rather than east-its about 1/2 the size but that could even change from now until when your kids are ready.

I grew up in Melville. South of LIE, west of bagatelle, went to West Hollow Junior High and then HHH East High school. Very good public school education and I went on to very good college / grad school. Very nice quiet area to grow up that was very easily accessible to LIE if you need to get anywhere else. For kids, the Arboretum park in that neighborhood is a huge plus when they get old enough to ride bikes to it. There's a basketball court, tennis courts, baseball diamond, etc, and it was never crowded, so it felt like my own private park. HS East is a much more demographically diverse high school than west, but I think that was a plus. Most of the original houses in Melville were built in the early '70's so make sure you get a thorough inspection if you look in that area. The only problem with that area is the nearest store to buy just a gallon of milk is in Wyandanch, and if you don't want to go to Wyandanch, there are some things on Route 110 going towards Huntington. I think Melville is much nicer than Dix Hills, but I'm biased.

Caledonia is also a very nice area. That's by Signal Hill Elementary and HSW. There are a bunch of houses for sale there and around that area too.

Why? The houses off of Bagetelle are awesome. The area west of DPA and east of Burrs Lane is great too.

That came during high school... ahem. So many bike trails in arboretum....

Houses north of the highway, but still west of bagatelle road are really nice as well. Those 2 areas (west of bagatelle, north and south of the expressway) were the 'status' areas to live when i was growing up.

Those 2 areas get much less traffic than further east in Dix Hills. Very big neighborhoods for kids to ride bikes in without having to be on busy roads.

Not true, sorry. That whole north south thing ceased to exist years ago. In fact, some of the most expensive real estate in the area is south of the lie. Legends in melville, some 2 acre plots off wildwood drive, new construction on hart place. Im less impressed with southeastern dix hills, east of dpa, and there is a section of smaller lots south of ryder avenue that borders deer park. If you are going to differentiate between north and south, you should move your point of reference further south than the lie but only based on lot size, there are no "bad" sections.

Default Need advice in Dix Hills area...

Hello,

I am looking at a house on Maryland Drive, right off of Straight Path. Could you please tell me about the neighborhood? Proximity to Wyandanch, Deer Park, Wheatley Heights?

Thanks!

South of LIE (near Burrs Lane, Bagatelle Rd, Half Hollow Hills Road) is very nice as well. If you want, please send me some streets and I can tell you if they are in better areas.

I lived in DH for 25 years, my parents still do...
