I just got back from the Hudson Valley (nice area)and I found myself getting a very disapproving eye and a curt retort when I told folks I was from LI.

I eventually started telling them I was from Eastern LI and although the glare was a tad less disapproving, there still seemed to be this unspoken icy disdain.

They sound nasty and very ill-mannered. Even I am nice to tourists from everywhere in NYC and help them if they ask.

Why treat a stranger badly who has done nothing to you? (UNLESS there's something about your own behavior you are not telling us?)

Its like Hamptons North up in some of those towns.

These folk were pretty earthy...not unkind.
