Im going to mohegan sun this saturday and its a 3 plus trip from massapequa. I heard that the ferry that travels the sound to conneticut is cheaper. does anyone know how true it is and if so, how do i get information?

I live in Massapequa and we considered it. I did the math, you shave about 40 miles off your trip (assuming a drive to Bridgeport from Massapequa) but it costs 67.00 ONE WAY for a car with unlimited passengers (51.00 if you're travelling alone). Quicker maybe, def not cheaper.
Can't seem to post links here (I'm new) but the website is 88844ferry dot com.
ETA: Having trouble linking...go to Cross Sound Ferry website (Cross Sound Ferry Services), click on Connections, scroll halfway down page to link to "casino web page"
I dont think leaving from Massapequa and taking the PT Jefferson Ferry is worth it. It is expensive and it leaves you with a drive once you hit Bridgeport. Taking the Orient Point Ferry might be worth your while if you want to avoid driving through NYC and 95 in Connecticut. It's probably a two hour drive from Massapequa to Orient Point and then an hour on the ferry...but it will be much more relaxing.

Wow...I never knew about that one...thanks, I was looking for a quicker way to Boston...this might work...

If you're not taking a car, the seajet is cheaper and faster. They pick you up with a bus and drive you to the casino from the dock.
I've also taken my car on the ferry for trips to Boston and Cape Cod. It is worth the money to avoid I 95.
Ferry is overpriced and going up again I was told, if you travel at non rush hour times it really doesn't save you time. We now live in central ct and my sis in law is in port jeff when we want to visit we leave car in bridgeport in the ferry parking lot and walk on even that isn't cheap I think its $22 or so round trip same day. The car round trip with an additional passenger is close to $140 id rather drive. All it saves you is aggravation driving through queens and the bronx/new rochelle. Even once you get off the ferry from bridgeport to new naven is no easy 25 miles either. Once you get past the 95/91 merge its an easy drive to either casino.
One option is do it one way, both ways too expensive, or they have specials I think by bus as well
the ferry is definitely a good idea. I took both but prefer the Orient Point. You get to relax on the ferry for a while in between drives and it really help on the long trips. It'll definitely take longer then just driving, but it's worth it.
I never booked the tickets because I never knew what time I will be arriving at the terminal. Every single time I went in without a problem -there was never a full house.
Food and drinks are a bit pricey on board, bring snacks and enjoy the ride.
be sure to go back to 95 in New Haven before the tunnel on the merrit, then it turns north and you need to stay on the coast but that is good advice, from New Haven up to the casinos on 95N should be a breeze
