Long Island is a great place to live and raise a family if you can afford to live here. The schools are tops, the beaches are beautiful and the weather is nice. You're in driving distance to NYC and the Hamptons. You have traffic to deal with and high property taxes. The areas you mention are nice, about 20-30 minutes from NYC.

I'm from Suffolk, but I'd pick Rockville Centre out of the three you posted. The homes there are $$$$ & the taxes in my opinion are insane but if you need a good commute to NYC its a good spot.

One of my best friends lives in Rockville Centre. I love it there. It's a very nice town in a good location with great schools and low crime. Of course, the cost reflects that. If you can afford to live there though (my friend's family moved there a long while ago when it was still affordable to the middle-class), it's a great place to live.

Rockville center is the best of those towns mentioned, but extremely pricey. Mineola is somewhat cheaper. Baldwin has been changing recently, and I don't think the prices there are worth it.

Baldwin
We live in Baldwin. It's a nice place to live but the taxes are very high and the town does seem to be going through some changes. There is going to be a downtown revitalization soon, but in the meantime, I might hold off and wait and watch. RVC is nice but extremely expensive. It's also a village so you have additional taxes to pay on top off Nassau county taxes. p.s. I do all my shopping in RVC because it's beautiful.
