I am a single mom of two small boys currently renting in Brooklyn. I am paying $1300 for a 2 BR apartment. The neighborhood is terrible and I would like to relocate to Queens or Long Island before moving out of state.

Question: Where can I find apartment complexes to rent from? It feels like NY/Long Island is full of private apartments to rent, but I want to deal with coporations - not private landlords.

I do google searches and come up with rental agents. If anyone can point me towards the right direction- I would appreciate it.

hate to say it but any 2br in a complex on LI is gonna run you wayyyy more than $1300. What's your budget? 'Cuz I think $1200-$1300 is average for a 1br.

I'm sorry- i forgot to include that I am aware of the rent increase. I can go up to $1700 a month. Sorry, should have included that in my OP

Fairfield is probably the largest manager of multi-dwelling rental properties on Long Island. They're not bad to rent from, but breaking the lease is a no no and consider your deposit a donation.

There are few "apartment complexes" on most of Long Island - it's more about single homeownership, with some duplexes thrown in, especially with your budget.

You can try and rent a co-op or condo, so you have the community pool, tennis court, etc. thing going, but even there you'll almost exclusively be dealing with RE agents and homeowners

What is soo bad about private landlords?
Some are very good, and some are very bad, just like normal people.
