People also nod hello to me all the time, hold doors, make small talk, etc.. seems like you're in the minority.

Well, then, I guess I stand corrected. My apologies.

It's part of the NY attitude to sort of keep your head down and mind your own business, not stare at people, whatever but many times people will talk to me or start up a conversation.
After 9/11 you would not believe how 'nice' everyone was to each other...I mean, everyone walked around with this heavy sorrow and just looked at you with this 'why us' (not pity, just disbelief and horror and need to connect) attitude. I will NEVER forget that. |

I don't believe that everyone on LI or NY for that matter is rude.
It's everywhere. |

When my friends from NY come down to visit they have commented on people generally being politer down here in the Old Dominion. Now you just have to be careful not to mistake being polite with being friendly or familiar.

I've been in most places in the country and have found NYers to be at least as nice and polite, over even more so. Especaily when it comes to asking for directions, suggestions on things to do/where to go,etc. I guess people see what they want to, but wasn't NY voted most polite a couple years ago in one of those whacky, keep people employed polls? It must not be only me.
Wow...there seems to be a pattern...the same people that like LI think people are not too rude. The same people that think it's overpriced, etc. seem to think people are jerks. Funny. |

Don't forget..."Once again, generalizations about people from LI or anywhere make people look foolish"

Exactly my point. That's why I didn't day ALL people anywhere in my comments. Overall, it's not better or worse on LI. Thanks for trying to be smart, but perhaps you'd be best served reading before writing.

To me it all appears as bait. If you defend where you live when people are needlessly bashing it, and making all kinds of ridiculous generalizations, you will be accused of being that same stereotype. It is bait I tell ya.
