Um, what attitude? You're the one trying to be smart quoting me trying to imply that I don't adhere to my own thoughts. Is that an attitude that people like? I'm sorry, you're right. LI SUCKS AND SO DO I. Thanks for setting me straight and not being childish in your approach.

Both really good points that I think many people overlook when talking about how people in certain parts of the country behave.

GypsySoul22 is right, people (and I mean native LI'ers and NY'ers) in this area tend to keep and want more personal space around us. Many of us don't like to be intruded upon and so we don't act like that to others either. Listen to a NYer talk and you won't hear a lot of "hun", "sweetie", etc thrown in, either - like they do down South, which drives me nuts and makes me want to say "Excuse me but I'm NOT your honey, sweetie or dearie". I know it's just the whole cultural norm down there but it's just not what we NYers are used to and for some of us it can be VERY offputting or annoying. Probably as offputting as our natural "keeping some distance" is for people from other places.

Being reserved, or not coming on as instantly friendly or buddy-buddy, isn't the same as being rude.
