Thanks for the links. I support it too, but with major union concessions. Can we trust the unions to not destroy services and go along with this? IDK. Referendums might be a good idea combined with the tax cap. There's a big one coming for Nassau within the next few years on rebuilding the coliseum area into mix-use property plus a possible casino there. (~$400M+ investment) What we need is NYS to bring back the STAR rebate checks for middle class LI or equivalent of lowering taxes 10% (get us out of having the 2nd highest prop taxes in the country), then 2% cap.
Quick question on $400M investment referendum ... do you mean they are going to expect the TAXPAYERS to pay around $400M to do something with that land?????
Sell it already and make a profit.
Let the indians invest money into it, not the taxpayers!
Please tell me I am completely misunderstanding this to mean that area is going to be yet another cost center on the Nassau taxpayers!
PS: I wonder why big butt Kate Murray isn't screaming NIMBY at the top of her lungs about the Indians and their casino plans like she did towards the Lighthouse Project. Did they give her a big piece of something to keep her quiet?
I'm starting to have second thoughts on this tax cap of 2%. I think it's fairly obvious that the reason everything being built these days is a mcmansion, is because of the screwed up tax system that favors bigger houses.
When you have '3br/2ba 1600 sq ft' modest homes paying $10.5k in taxes and '5br/3ba 3000 sq ft mcmansions' down the block paying $12k, something ain't right. This applies to neighboring towns as well when comparing town/county tax liabilities. I'm all for lower taxes and a tax cap...but we really need to fix this broken assessment system first. Thoughts?
-they're starting to build like it's 2005 again here..additions, dormers, tear downs; getting out of control. ?
Every house on LI should pay a flat tax of $5K per year including school tax, then reduce the ridiculous salaries needed to given that tax.
Then, the value of the home could go up if it's in a better performing SD, so location, location still applies to RE prices.
We don't need both prices and taxes going up together all the time. If they reduce spending, they'll do fine on 5K per resident, still high to some, but it won't kill all who live here.

You make sense. Too bad there are public sector unions in charge of the cost of most of the labor. Take a look at what is going on with financially "on the ropes" Nassau County ... nothing to even do with school systems either ... more than one public sector unions is suing because they "must" have more, more, more!

Not sure on Kate Murray.. But if this goes through, it's supposed to bring in $100M+ a year into county coffers plus tons of jobs. Not bad- if they could keep it at $400M or less. One major problem would be traffic. Supposedly the fish sticks are gonna leave within 3 years if we don't build a new coliseum. County Exec. Mangano mulls referendum on new Nassau Coliseum

I'm just surprised (actually suspicious as this is a woman who thought a White Castle on Sunrise Hwy. had to be "stopped") she isn't going all NIMBY like a maniac on them like she did on the Lighthouse Project!!!
The $100M a year and JOBS would be very welcome around here. It could also create new courses of study in gaming and hospitality at the local colleges.
That area by the Coliseum is a DUMP. SOMETHING has to be done. A gorgeous new casino and new arena would look very nice over there.
