So much for 'acceptance'. This was about 15 years ago. I don't know if much has changed since then.

Then why bring it up??????
Fifteen years ago no one would have thought we could have a woman or a person of color in the White House.........that was a long time ago.
There's always gonna be one moron in the crowd.

Get real.
They play the game to get black votes, but as you can see from the recent polls that the blacks of this country prefer a real black man or at least a mixed-race mulatto over the pseudo black politicians.
If the Clinton's really believed in a non-racial America how come they sent Chelsea to a private school in Washington DC.
Most Rich White Liberals are themselves the biggest racists. They live in their exclusive neighborhoods or gated communities and have the nerve to call working class white guys like myself the racists.
Stop the hypocrisy.

First off as was pointed out below the school Chelsea went to was private. Secondly, I'm sure the Clintons would want Chelsea to wind up with someone who loves her and treats her good no matter what color. Now the working class couple in Mississippi which you seem to be emulating might be the ones with the problems if their daughter comes home with a black boyfriend no matter how well he may treat her.

She is a smart girl, only the best for her, that's why. She is an adult...her mommy and daddy aren't trying to manipulate WHO she dates and sending her to school according to that.
You are blantantly accusing the Clintons of racism as being why she is in private school. Try she is private school b/c it is highly affluent and well regarded, and they only want the best for their daughter. And I am SURE the school isn't WHITES only. Highly doubt that.
That is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever read.

How old were YOU 15 years ago? And would it be safe for us to assume you have not changed much in 15 years? Point is:
A) As Andi said, 15 years ago is a long time
B) Some things will change and some things will never change
C) Some people will change and some people will never change.
Can't make blanket statements when it comes to racism.

If one wants to speak about racism lets speak about something with some substance and facts not speculation because there's enough rancid racism to go around.
Pointing fingers at liberals as NBRES does accusing them of being racists in his blanket statement in of itself is a form of predjudice and hate. To me thats a dividing force...not what this country/world needs.

Did you really ask how does a white man benefit from racism?
Have you any knowledge of history and how it connects to the present?
Are you kidding?

I've left some facts to back up my assertions regarding nrbes' statement then I go on to ask you a question regarding yours and you answer my question with another question????So does that mean you want me to debate with myself? LOL

Racism is a fact of life for a lot of people...racism had been a huge fact in my own life being a Jew so I'm far from a stranger to it but your answer once again is not much of an answer. I think we all recogonize predjudice.
In todays world here on LI compared to years ago I believe we've come a long way and while racism will always exist it doesn't come close to the way things were years ago. We've come leaps and bounds since then. There will always be idiots where ever we go.
I'm a 56 y.o Jew that was brought up in a predominantly black neighborhood of Corona Queens my whole kid life and to this day my best friends are of color so I'm pretty well versed in what racism is all about and how it effects us in the here and now.
Here in the Huntington township I have witnessed very little racism. While it does exist, its a far cry from what it used to be. Its not much different than neighbors being spiteful and vendictive when they see how another neighbor puts a fence up around their house or the color they paint it. I've seen more fighting over that than of the colors of their skin....in todays world.
I've personally had an Afgani kid work for me for a cpl of years and Adil is a person of color...maybe worse in some peoples eyes being from the mid east and I've met his parents and brother. According to them they haven't had any issues with neighbors on LI.
Blanket statements are worthless....to me. Open dialogue is the only tool that can set us free.

15 years ago was a while ago, but not THAT long ago.... There have been interracial couples for decades in this country and, to this day, they are still looked upon "differently".
Why bring it up? Because things like this are still happening today, that's why. Long Island isn't as "accepting" as you're trying to imply. Racism and classism are rampant and an ingrained part of Long Island. There's no denying that. You can scream all day about how people aren't prejudiced, but they are. Tell me what YOU think would happen if a black couple or an interracial couple moved into a lilly white neighborhood? Do you think people are going to put out the welcome mat?

Where exactly am I "screaming" anything?? I said from the beginning that I recognize that racism will always exist, but I went on to say that I think we've come a long way in fifteen years.
Do you think fifteen years ago an Obama would be where he is "today"?
No way, that in of itself says/proves a real lot about how we as Americans have changed..I'm also not saying that we don't have further to go but we have taken some leaps forward..... and it's about time!!
And regarding Obama...even "I'm" shocked that he's getting the wide acceptance he is accross this nation. Sure is refreshing to be a part of!! I never realized HOW accepting people are .... in states I never expected it.
