Default Where in Long Island are interracial couples accepted?

I know that Long Island is still very racially divided. I am looking to purchase a home, in a nice area, where both my husband and I will be accepted. He is black and I am white. Any advice or thoughts?

Stony Brook is great but pricey.
It's integrated and progressive because of the University.

I also have dear friends who are interracial and mixed faith.
They are very happy in Mt Sinai.

I really don't think you'd have a hard time anywhere in N Brookhaven.

I wish this question didn't need to be asked, but I totally understand why you would ask it.

Best

Thank you Clamboy for your advice. It is a shame that the question has to be asked, but this is the world we live in.

We live in Nassau Shores in Massapequa. I grew up there so we have many friends, but he still gets looks and comments are made. We have been talking about moving, but it is not a definite.

Motzohpizza!!!!!
Run ...dont walk.
Thats some real unfriendly territory you're in.

I'm sure youre aware. I think Howard Beach would be a better bet for your husband.

If you can break free from Nassau North Shore Suffolk can be beautiful.
(Check out Sayville on the South Shore too...thats a pretty tolerant and friendly town)

Bottom line.
Ignorance is ignorance

Look at the education level of the towns.
I think you'll find friendlier surrounds in the more progressive areas of the Island.

Go...and dont look back.

Default You have to do your research

If you see a house you like, talk to the neighbors, visit the neighborhood in the morning and at night. Get a real feel for the community before bidding on a home. I live in Rockville Centre which many people would describe as snobby and mostly Irish Catholic and Jewish. My experience has been anything but that. I live on a block full of wonderful people. We have black, white, Chinese, Muslim, Catholic, Jewish and even a lesbian couple on the street and nobody cares as long as everyone is nice. And they are. Our homes are well kept and our property values are high (not as high as last year but that's fine with me!)

My brother (white) is married to a Asian woman and they get looks everywhere they go from Florida to Maine...there are bigot idiots everywhere! It must be terrible to feel that people judge you and I am sorry that it happens.

Good luck and may you find a place where you are happy.

And it's the 25th best place to live in the entire USA according to the Money magazine 2007 rankings.
