Miller Place is beautiful but the Taxes are downright obscene.

My mother in law pays 13k for a 1400 sft ranch.w/Star

If I was going to drop bigger $ I'd buy Three Village Schools
Its a much more eclectic, affluent and integrated community due to Stony Brook University.
High School Student's Family Sues Over Racial Bullying - Topix

If youre attached to the overrated/overcrowded SD buy Sound Beach/MP schools(much lower taxes)
Only downside it that youll always be from the "Poor" * part of the district(Except Scotts Beach)
MP can be a fairly snobby....it was working class 20 years ago....no more.

Good luck

PS
Poor= Your family only pulls down 120k a year and you dont drive a Land Rover.

Be prepared to keep up with the Joenses.

I remember when Miller Place was looked down on as a place you "wouldn't want to live in" (back in the 1970s). Guess it, or some of it anyway, turned around since.

I've seen the taxes on those Miller Place listings on MLS and was wondering why the heck they're so high. Did something happen with the school district to raise that portion of the taxes so high? especially in comparison to the surrounding towns.

NE Brookhaven was sketchty 20 years ago.....its totally turned around.
fairly affluent.

Miller Place always had good schools.

Add a few hundred McMansions and no business district/downtown

And Voila!

13k!

Note the foreshadowing,

Those Macmansions were barren and boarded in the early 90's

Wait......its gonna get uglier.

Smart money might downsize...that why I keep mentioning Rocky Point as a good option.

Had no idea they were all snobby up there I just know it is a nice area with good schools and I saw some houses coming down in price. As far as taxes I guess I am just used to those prices. Anyway are they the real snobs or the wanna be snobs? you know the ones they are not what they pretend to be,leased fancy cars, maxed out on credit no money in the bank but they have all flashy things and act like they are better then you.Well if it is them they are all over the island .
