Hi there!

I am house hunting at the moment and after weighing all the options, thinking about moving to Long Island since I am a newlywed and have a child on the way.

I have looked in Rockland & even dared to take a ride up to Orange and liked the size of property you get for your money.....but taxes are high. I looked in Westchester but it has the same problem once you go north of Yonkers. Yonkers also has some good areas but then the schools are the issue.

Long Island seems like a good bet especially since I will be commuting to Manhattan. After reading many posts here.......Hicksville seems to be an area where there are a lot of South Asians. Are there any other areas?

Also do all the towns in Long Island have pre-K child programs?

I will be happy to receive any input...thanks.

Why do you need to worry about how many south Asians live in a particular area? It's not exactly like you would be a minority that anyone doesn't want in their town. Come to massapequa... We need indians

Look up in Muttontown if you can afford it. Lots of Asians including S. Asians there.

I think you are correct. There are south asians spread out all over the Island that it shouldn't make a difference.

My price point is under $400K. I'm aware that Hicksville's SD is the not greatest.....but its not the worst either.

Thanks.

Under 400k you're stuck with Hicksville. Schools are dead average. Heavy Indian population though.
It's not a bad choice.

Default In case you are unfamiliar with the local geography

Many, if not most, communities are not coterminous with a single school district.

ravipatelny, in case you are unfamiliar with the local geography, I've sent you an explanation of the very, very confusing geography of "Lawn Guyland" as a DM (Direct Message).

Another plus is the property taxes in Hicksville are not as hideous as in the areas around it. A couple of years ago an Indian elementary schooler from Hicksville made it to the finals of the National Spelling Bee. Nothing wrong with the schools there. As long as your kids are willing to work in school they will get a good education.
