It wasn't just Grumman warehouse workers who could buy their own home on LI, it was all blue and pink collar workers back then.

Where does that happen anymore? Probably still can out there in some parts of flyover country (aka the real america) where houses sit on the market so long that rent to own and owner financing (where the owner cannot be choosy because they just can't find buyers) is absolutely the only way to get rid of them. Hmmm. Now that I think of it, I wonder if that is what LI is coming to ... something that rarely existed around here before ... rent to own and easy terms owner financing.

When LI lost aerospace it killed off a lot of machine shops, fastener suppliers (nut & bolts), aluminum suppliers, electronics suppliers, print shops, packaging companies and other companies who made stuff that made jets take to the sky.

My cousin had a clam boat and played in a band, he owned a nice little cape in West Babylon. It almost boggles the mind to think about.
