Default Backyard/Frontyard spraying for insects necessary?

hello,

I keep getting calls for spraying my landscaping for protection from insects etc... Anyone have experience with this.. Is it worth it?? I dont have many trees, but I have a bunch of shrubs and bushes...

I keep saying no, but wanted to see what other people on LI are saying.

I'll have an answer myself at the end of the summer. Moved into our house last August and the mosquito/biting insect problem was so bad I had to go into the yard with long sleeves and pants just to use the grill or mow the lawn. The previous owner had a lot of trees, shrubs and flowering plants.

Kept getting hounded by a local tree company for tree oils and insect sprays and decided to give it a shot considering how bad the problem was last year. We'll see if it was worth a few bucks over the coming months.

Spraying for mosquitoes is a waste of money. Only aerial spraying of entire neighborhood works....for a short time.
We live along Heckscher Park in East Islip and bugs are just a way of life. I have a couple bat houses (actually three but one houses my mother in law) and they are very active at night but we still have to avoid going out at night.

I did hear that the bats are dying off because of a fungus. Then the insects are more because the bats arent there to eat them.
