Default Long Islanders, why are we still dealing with race issues?

I often cruise the boards and every now and then race issues come up in a thread. Why canít people just be people and learn to get along with each other? Why canít we learn to understand each otherís culture instead of criticizing each other? What ever happened to constructive criticism? What ever happened to working together to solve problems? Why so much hate and animosity? Life is too short for all of this nonsense. I want to live the American dream just as much as the next guy. Just because there are some bad apples in the barrel doesnít mean the whole barrel is spoiled. What we need is real honest dialog with out the negativity and the foolishness. Sorry just venting.

A lot of people come online to vent anonymously.

But if it can't be said to my face then as far as i'm concerned it doesn't exist.

Let cowards be cowards.

It's what I call "Moderator cut: language removed
on the internet syndrome." People who are ignorant but would never say racist things out in the open will say them on the internet from behind the computer screen. That way they think there is no repercussions.

Funny, I call it ID Syndrome: [mod] language removed [/mod] Syndrome. The acronym also infers the bigot's level of maturity and awareness of the world around him or her, after Freud's id-ego-superego spiel.

Face what facts?

Name one fact that you believe in and is perceived as racist and we can debate it out. And PLEASE don't beat around the bush like most of the closet-racists on this site, either be blunt about it or don't say anything at all (but not to the point in which moderators wanna remove your post).

Racism isn't just relegated to LI. There are plenty of places within the country where one can encounter it as it's practiced by all creeds and colors. As long as someone is perceived as different to somebody else, there will never be a 'let's hold hands and sing Kumbaya' moment.

Perhaps "d-bag" would be a better phrasing?

Of course, we can just refer to an Internet Massengill Syndrome. That would express the point, wouldn't it?

"Mom? I've gotta ask you something real personal..."
