I Moved To Houston In 78 From Babylon Li. Now I Live North Of Houston In Montgomery County. The Town Is The Woodlands. We Get A Late Fall And The Leaves Do Turn Colors. Our Winters Are Short But We Have Many Days Where You Need A Coat. I'm Italian So I Start Planting My Vegetable Garden In March. There Is Nothing That We Don't Have Here Except Mountains And Snow, But If You Go Further North There Are Many Large Hills. The Best Thing You Can Do Is Look It Up On Line And Get Your Info There....

I completely disagree. NJ and Long Island have a lot of the same problems,. But with Long Island, you have to drive through the traffic of NYC to get out. NJ has congestion but it doesn't require traveling across the bridges and congestion of the city if you want to get away from the congestion.

My sisters taxes in Baldwin are now over $9000, but she has no children.
I don't know how a family could send their child to college with those taxes.

Man, I live in Bucks County PA now and I was seriously thinking of coming back because I miss and love Long Island so much but you guys are scaring the heck out of me. LOL. Has it really gotten that bad and that much more expensive? I am so sorry to hear that. What a shame. Now, for those of you in NC,TN, and AL(?) are any of you paying that Personal Property Tax I hear of so often with the South? And what are your sales taxes like in those respective areas. I know over here the sales tax is at 6% for the areas outside of Philly and 7% for Philadelphia itself. But no tax on clothing (big big smiles).

I am a Navy reserve Officer at NAS Willow Grove. If I went back to active duty I would love to be stationed there. Bucks Co. is just gorgeous. It's amazing the amount of growth however...Rt 611 is insane these days in Horsham and Warrington!!
FYI...Long Island is not that bad. It's all what you make of it. We moved from the relative tranquility of Utah to the North Shore and thinks its just wonderful here. Yeah...taxes are high but contrary to popular belief there are things (like food) that are cheaper here then in other parts of the country. Actually there are a lot of good deals on houses in Suffolk County (not as much up to date with Nassau).

Hi,
We moved to AL, and yes, we pay the personal property tax on autos and registrations. We also pay sales tax on food, but the tax is, I think, 4 percent in the city; at least on food and sales tax. I don't know what it was on the auto and registration, but it wasn't much. Other taxes are so reasonable here that it really doesn't compare to what we were paying on Long Island.

Hey, thanks for the input. Don't get me wrong - there are lots of things about Bucks/Montgomery counties that are wonderful. Peddler's Village, New Hope, Otto's Brauhaus, and many more. I am just a LIer still at heart. Oh by the way, Street Road is a disaster also with traffic. Non stop cars. I just miss LI but it's discouraging to read so many negative opinions of the living costs there. What is the Island doing to its inhabitants? Why drive them away with such an expensive living cost? Just a couple rhetorical questions. But thanks for you reply.

Thanks Sammie. Can you explain this Personal Property tax a little better to me? What exactly does it include or entail? Is it just for the auto or would it include things like TV's and computers and any other electronics? I have heard of a few states that have this tax but I have no idea of how it works. Any insight would be appreciated.
