Why and how would "Northport villagers" have a say in what happens in Fort Salonga?
Because they are part of Huntington and fight at the town level. They have successfully compelled Huntington to enact a ban on new construction on the South side of 25-A because they are concerned that the businesses there do not reflect the charector of Northport Village (which is on the north side of 25-A).
There are residential homes all around this intersection that have to listen to the noise created in this valley. Why have a 24 hour 7 day business that will generate more noise and become a late night hang out?
Because they also live and pay taxes in the town Of huntington.
And, exactly how much influence do the Town of Huntington tax-paying residents of the Hamlet of Fort Salonga, or, for that matter, any of the hamlets in the Town of Huntington, have with zoning decisions within the Village of Northport?
On a side note: I had a discussion with a friend of mine about a similar issue; He mentioned that the Town rule can sometimes override the Village...and County can supersede Town rule...State override County. I've never heard of this happening (except for NIFA taking over Nassau County finances), but anyone know anything about this? Probably a discussion that deserves its own thread and I do not know in what exact instances this applies. But it's something to think about.
As far as the 7-11, they are an asset in my book - They can be a lifesaver in some instances, very convenient too. I would pick another fight.
Walter makes a valid point. This is a Village of Northport decision.

It is not a Village of Northport decision. The property in question lies outside the village boundries.
And Huntington Station is considered the "ugly step-sister"? That area gets dumped on all the time, has been ignored for decades. Brick sidewalks just don't do the trick!
