Just fly Southwest out of Islip. I take routine trips out of ISP going to Florida and have no issues. Super easy.
That's fine, but pretty much anywhere west of the Mississippi is a flight that has a changeover. If I want to fly to Vegas it's a 9-10 hour trip on SW from ISP.

Exactly. I flew out to Ohio this time last year and had a four hour layover at BWI-- not fun.
In 2005, I flew direct to Vegas from ISP.
I really love ISP, unfortunately the airport is not really doing that good. I hear Penn Air (who started flights to Boston 10 months ago) closed shop at ISP.
Even south west has less direct flights, we used to have a direct to Chicago for like 60 bucks, its all gone.
It ok if you are flying to FL or close by like Baltimore/philly.
I wish they would get another airline here. But in the meantime, I will fly Southwest and change planes rather than have to go into JFK or LaGuardia. I don't know why the stopped direct flights to Vegas. They were always packed.
