Why is Long Beach not on your list? Its not far in distance between Westbury and the Far Rockaways, and has a high percentage of young professionals...

My co worker grew up in Glen Cove and now lives in LB, right near the Sands catering hall..she loves the area..

Oh, completely overlooked Long Beach!

Narrowed my search down to Valley Stream, Rockville Center, and Long Beach. There was an apartment complex called South Grove in Valley Stream (I believe it's on S Grove St and E Hawthorne St). Apartment complex seems nice and it's supposed to be well-maintained, but I've heard some mixed things about the area, though, any thoughts?

Thanks for all your input so far, by the way, it's really helped me out a lot

Long Beach: leave you car behind unless you find a house to share along with a driveway to use. Parking is Long beaches' worst attribute. Nice beach and boardwalk, and having the railroad station does make it livable. Restaurants up the wazoo too.

Located at 710 Lido Boulevard, the Sands is in Lido Beach ("Long Beach, NY 11561" mailing address).

Unfortunately, although Long Beach has bus service to Far Rockaway (the N33), there is no easy way to get to Old Westbury, so he'd still need the car.

The only area that realistically would be convenient by transit to both Old Westbury and Far Rockaway would be Hempstead, but obviously nobody's going to recommend that.

The problem is that the one bus (N20) that serves Old Westbury runs every hour for most of the day, so either way, he'll probably need a place with decent parking.

I would say RVC or Floral Park, maybe even try Long Beach although it may be a little out of the way for you. I'm from Oceanside and it is all families, if you are looking for something with more activity and places to walk to I would consider those. Wantagh and Merrick also have a lot going on too.

That is in the Village of Valley Stream. The area is good and safe at all hours and walkable to shopping on Rockaway Avenue. Also close to parks (pool, running/biking trail, etc.), Village Green (free concerts at night), and library. Not a bad choice at all. However, that being said, do look into RVC and LB because I think either of those areas would be more "fun" for a young, single woman with more nightlife, etc.

Great, thanks so much, you all. I went to look at a cute studio in RVC today and am going to take a look at South Grove later on this week.

Now, just a question, what would it be like, having to drive to Belle Harbor (Rockaways)? Is it a rough drive? Rough in the wintertime? I'm asking because I have my internship there for 8 weeks in late October until mid December.

Hello,

I am on this website because I am moving to Long beach in about a month. I saw a lot of people talking about Valley Stream, I grew up there with my family. I visit almost once a week but I would not recommend moving there. Its really said what that area has become. Trust me just look at the news you will see Valley Stream has a headline at least once a week for robbery or home invasion. I wish I had the $$$ to move my parents out of that ****ty neighborhood.

Are you referring to events in the Village of Valley Stream or to things that happen at locations that have a "Valley Stream, NY 11580 or 11581" mailing address that are not in the Village of Valley Stream?

Places that have a "Valley Stream, NY 11580 or 11581" mailing address that are not in the Village of Valley Stream are in the Hamlet of North Valley Stream, the Hamlet of Franklin Square, the Village of Malverne, the Hamlet of South Valley Stream and the Hamlet of Woodmere; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Valley Stream with a "Hewlett, NY 11557" mailing address.
