If drinking water is the poster's concern you could always get a Poland Spring (or another company) contract. Runs anywhere from 30-50+ per month. My other half refuses to drink LI tap water. To each their own. From my brief drives through Shoreham-Wading River it is a very nice area, and based on test scores, etc, the school district seems to be quite strong. If your husband works in Suffolk it makes the move even more compelling.

For those who may not be familiar with Wading River
For those who may not be familiar with Wading River:
Wading River is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the north-west part of the Town of Riverhead, in the north-central part of Suffolk County, along the Riverhead/Brookhaven town line.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Wading River in the Town of Riverhead is bordered on the north by Long Island Sound; on the east by the Hamlet of Baiting Hollow and the Hamlet of Calverton; on the south by the Hamlet of Calverton; and, on the west by the Hamlet of East Shoreham and the Hamlet of Ridge in the Town of Brookhaven (the Riverhead/Brookhaven town line).
The Hamlet of Wading River has a different border than does the "Wading River 11792" postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Wading River 11792" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Wading River and a place can have other than a "Wading River 11792" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Wading River): places that have a "Wading River, NY 11792" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Wading River are in the Hamlet of East Shoreham in the Town of Brookhaven; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Wading River with a "Calverton, NY 11933" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

If my husband worked in Suffolk, we'd move to Wading River or Shoreham in a minute!
Good luck!

For those who may not be familiar with Shoreham:
Shoreham is a village (incorporated in 1913) in the north part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the north-central part of Suffolk County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Shoreham in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by the Long Island Sound; on the east by the Hamlet of East Shoreham; on the south by the Hamlet of East Shoreham and the Hamlet of Rocky Point; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Rocky Point.
Shoreham is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where the majority of the places that have the community name in their mailing address are not in the village: places that have a "Shoreham, NY 11786" mailing address that are not in the Village of Shoreham are in the Hamlet of East Shoreham, the Hamlet of Rocky Point and in the Hamlet of Ridge.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

I lived in Wading River almost 8 years before relocating to NC last year....I grew up in West Islip...Wading River is a beautiful community. You won't go wrong moving there... I miss the King Kullen...but you have Stop & Shop & Waldbaums in nearby Rocky Point & Miller Place...Riverhead is like a 15 minute ride...I am not sure about the water, as I had SCWA, no well water where I was, north of 25A. Good Luck...I know you will love it in Wading River...

What's happening with Broadwater -- the LG facility that might end up getting moored off of that Shoreham area? Any word on that yet?
One proposal showed it a little over 9 miles from the beach at Shoreham.

I just got back from seeing a house in Wading River. Huge house on 1.09 acre property. I headed east on Route 25, then made a left at a place that sells trailers. The only thing that concerned me was after making that left, there was a trailer park community on the right hand side of the street. To the left were the nice houses. I never knew that there was a trailer park in Wading River.

that trailer park has been there a long time, along with another one on the border of wading river & baiting hollow. They are not your streotypical trailer parks, they are usually occupied by seniors & pretty well kept. No riff raff coming out of that area there on wading river manor road, i live very close by & pass there all the time.

My close friend just told me the same thing. He says it's been there since the area were all farms and mostly elderly people. I wondered if that was the one on the news recently, there was an article stating they were raising the rent for the space etc....
I love Wading River but hate the taxes there. The house we looked at was huge for 550K but had a tax of 13K!!! Yikes!
