She never takes the train without me, cause like a lot of people out here, she finds Manhattan scary.

People out here find a lot of things scary. Particularly the second generation LI'ers, who've never been anywhere else.

Factories...chemicals...they give you cancer...SCARY.

Brown skinned people...gang members...SCARY.

Anything different from them...they never heard of it...it's weird...SCARY.

The second highest rate of pedestrian traffic deaths in New York State...A-OK.

She finds manhattan scary?

I thought you were talking about the scary hicksville trainstation?

As for being scared of a cancer and gang members, thats called common sense. Something you obviously lack.

You hate LI, whats stopping you from moving? Your lily white ass would fit in perfectly on Jamaica Ave or Fordham Rd. :-)

Just out of curiosity I Googled the NHTSA stats on pedestrian fatalities by state. It seems the most recent available online is for 2004, so that'll have to do. And the leaders are:

California 684

Florida 493

Texas 424

New York 317

North Carolina 159

Illinois 156

New Jersey 155

Pennsylvania 150

(Texas at #3?! )

The large office building there, where Chase used to be? They've got one major tenant left, AIG insurance. I'll bet that place is 75% vacant.

Perhaps, a little less focus on...BS, and a lot more on getting some businesses in there?

Sorry...never mind...no secret what I think...
I totally agree. Hempstead Turnpike is looking like QUEENS and sooo many cars!!! Ughhh, glad I just visit and don't live there.

exiledreplicant is on a distinguished road
i've been living here for about 21 years now, after being here that long, at times i feel the need to go elsewhere. overall its okay, quiet suburban town with crimes down to a minimum. but i do agree, alot of it is getting overpopulated, commercialized, etc.

Well, of course, but did you notice the anomaly in the list? Comparing it to the state population figures for the same year (2004):

California - #1 in population, #1 in pedestrian fatalities
Texas - #2 in population, #3 in pedestrian fatalities
New York - #3 in population, #4 in pedestrian fatalities
Florida - #4 in population, #2 in pedestrian fatalities (a little off but not much)
North Carolina - #11 in population, #5 in pedestrian fatalities

One could use those numbers to make a case for drivers in NC being "deadlier" than those in NY.

Either that or NC has some kind of "Yankee-Transplant Elimination Program" going on and they're using autos as the weapon of choice.
