I moved from Hicksville to NC. They do not know how to drive here. They are used to driving tractors everywhere and they drive cars like they are tractors. 1 out of 300 would pass a road test in Hicksville.

I would say that Hicksville is now more a mixture of middle and working class (more middle) than mainly middle/upper middle class from the 80's or so.
Only time I've ever been there late at night is when I've missed my Westbury train from and hopped on the one going to Hicksville. I can't STAND their crappy cab stand at the train station so I just cool my heels at the Duncan Donuts there and wait for my cab from home. Seen a few characters around. |

Hicksville isn't a bad town at all. It is a bit seedy around the train station, but the rest of the town is still nice

Depends. The nice areas of Hicksville are the ones that border Jericho and Woodbury/Plainview. The areas around the station and that border Westbury and Levittown are pretty run down if you ask me.

In what world are Hicksville and Bethpage the 'south shore' ?

I live on the South Shore and I do agree that the North shore is much more aesthetically pleasing. It is no comparison. I do disagree that the South shore is ugly. Most of the South Shore consists of nice, middle class areas. In my opinion, the South Shore is still way better than most areas in Queens. It's all perspective. (I could be wrong, but I was under the assumption that the Hicksville, Bethpage, Levittown area was more middle island than southshore and that Plainview/Woodbury starts the North shore in that area) Perhaps Walter Greenspan needs to clarify.) I still don't know why people are bashing Hicksville. There are so many worse towns on LI. |
