We (retired couple, early 60's) are thinking of moving to Riverhead, but just checked out its crime statistics, and were shocked to see the high crime rate, especially for burglary and break-ins. Are we crazy to move there (from Rockland County), or are we overreacting to what is really a small, isolated problem? We want to feel safe in our home, and safe to take walks, ride bikes, etc., during the day, at least. Any other info on being retired in the area would be most appreciated. We like a diverse community, but don't want to feel like we have to be looking over our shoulders all the time. Thanks, guys!

There are a few complexes north of route 58 that are nice and gated. Most of the not so great areas of Riverhead are south of this and by 25.

Default A map of the Hamlet of Riverhead in the Town of Riverhead, Suffolk County

gusgus, bear in mind that the "Riverhead, NY 11901" ZIP Code postal zone includes the Hamlet of Riverhead and parts of 7 other adjacent hamlets within its service area.

A map of the Hamlet of Riverhead in the Town of Riverhead, Suffolk County:

Places that have a "Riverhead, NY 11901" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Riverhead are in the Hamlet of Baiting Hollow, the Hamlet of Calverton, the Hamlet of Northville, the Hamlet of Aquebogue, as well as in the Hamlet of Northampton, the Hamlet of Riverside and the Hamlet of Flanders in the Town of Southampton.

Hi, I am a senior citizen and just moved to Riverhead, to a gated community and I love it.
You are close to shopping, the beach and all that is wonderful about the Northfork.

I was just in a beautiful condo community last week; Maidstone Landing on the North Fork. Looked like a very nice area. Some condos overlook the Sound. Off the beaten path and not near the downtown area. Good luck.

If that's the Maidstone Landing on the North Fork, then, although it's claimed to be in Jamesport, it seems that it is in Northville.

I knew I couldn't slip anything by you Walter(lol). Just out of curiosity, is Briermere Farm also in Northville?
