Default Is Freeport normally that bad?

I'm going to be at the beach and the only bus that leaves at nite is the N88 which goes to freeport (i'd presume it takes you by the LIRR freeport station). my concern was that i've heard and read a couple of threads on here about roosevelt and freeport being pretty bad areas. Would it really be that bad even if i take the bus from the beach there and hop on a train to take back to mineola?

I wouldn't worry too much. The area by the train station is shady, but safe especially during the day. However, your not on the same line as mineola so you'd have to transfer at jamaica station, i think?
