I am well aware of that. My rhetorical question was for skylander, who complained about how much of his taxes go to the NCPD. This same person would be groaning if his/her taxes went up to address the issues they perceive as being attributable to the lack of police officers.
In general: isn't part of the area the OP complained about patrolled by SCPD
(F'dale)?
No, it would've been NCPD from Bethpage to Fdale Home Depot.
I think it's a bad driver issue, not so much lack of PD.
I was in a couple close calls this summer. Most of the time it's young kids. I don't see how OP could've had TWELVE close calls in one short trip!! Thats absurd.
DMV is giving out licenses to anyone and everyone way too easily though. People don't know how to drive. That's the problem - including old folks that can barely turn their steering wheels anymore.
That says it all. Living up here, the state police, county deputies, city of Traverse City cops, all patrol regularly with rolling radar. U speed, they turn around & come get you. Speeding up here is almost impossible. When we visit LI, the difference is like night & day. LI for crazy drivers is basically like Disney World. You get away with almost everything

Agreed. What amazes me is that there aren't more people killed with the way some of them are driving.
How many of you clowns responding to this thread are cops? I'd have to estimate most of you are... The fact is, our roads are not being patrolled and we are PAYING TO HAVE THEM PATROLLED. I don't care what the Nassau County police commissioner has to do to correct this problem but HE HAS TO DO IT. People are being murdered on the Nassau Country roadways while absolutely nothing is being done about it! I don't care if he has to re-prioritize his enforcement model, he's got to do SOMETHING about this problem! This stupid aggressive and defiant behavior on the part of motorists has got to be put a stop to NOW! I'm mad enough about this insanity to start a campaign over it. People all over the country are having their roads patrolled for far less than 60 percent of their counties budget so WHY AREN'T WE GETTING THE SAME LEVEL OF SERVICE?
If the Commissioner can't do the job with the personnel he has at his disposal than it is time to deputize 3000 Nassau County residents of good standing to do the job for him. That is exactly what I would do because it costs the county nothing, would immediately bring the situation under control because motorists would not know exactly who is a traffic officer on the roads with them, and best of all... IT WOULD MAKE THE COUNTY MANY MILLIONS OF DOLLARS EACH YEAR! Nassau County needs to deploy a "citizen traffic officer" force to handle this problem. This would free the police of this responsibility entirely and allow civic minded people to take our streets back and instill some sanity back onto a completely out of control situation that is being thoroughly ignored by those who are charged to manage it.

I don't find it funny at all. Something needs to be done about the problem and if the Police can't handle it then it's time to call for deputies to handle it. It's the Old West out there... it's gonna take an Old West solution to solve it.

Your absolutely right and I know the perfect solution:
Saw a few en route to a block party in Levittown last weekend. Saw quite a few in Mineola last time I was there (at that horrible traffic area where it meets Carle Place). See them fairly often when visiting in Wantagh and Oceanside. Saw them last time I went to Parrots of the World in Freeport. Usually see at least one on the way to the vet's in Plainview.
