How is the area demographically? Things to do? I know the Roosevelt Field mall is around the area, and I have heard that there are a lot of nice restaurants in the area too along Old Country Rd.

Anyone have any experience living in these areas? I know some areas of Westbury can be a little seedy, but every town has that.

To add to my question, how are the traffic conditions? I heard that Old Country Rd and Glen Cove road are congested almost 90% of the time because of mall traffic and the stores on Glen Cove Rd? ....

Its beautiful there, old country road is store paradise.
You are like 15 minutes away from Jones Beach.
And there are clubs and bars galore around there.
The houses are beautiful, and Roosevelt Field is always fun.
Very beautiful area, just stay away from Roosevelt..( The city not mall, Roosevelt Field isn't in Roosevelt)

Congestion along Old Country Road is abominable. The intersection you mention is bad, but they time the lights there pretty good so it does move and you don't sit for too long. At high volume times like Christmas - forget it. We sat in traffic for over an hour on Glen Cove Road at Christmastime last year, the blizzard didn't help, but it was really ridiculous.

I used to live in GC ... you can DM with specific questions. I'm not sure what you're interested in, housing, workplace, etc.

Garden city I heard is nice...I am specifically more so referring to the area in Westbury along Old Country Road near the mall, around the area of Post Avenue and all those restaurants and stores.

It seems like a nice area but I also do not to make the mistake of sitting in traffic for over an hour to go 2 miles either....

Overall, the area seems nice, I am just worried about the traffic.....

Carle Place and Westbury have some higher crime areas. It's a traffic nightmare. Personally I would avoid this area if I could, and you can, so why not?

Post Ave is nice all right, if you like seeing strange men loitering around, esp at night.

Being that this is my area I probably can give you the best advice. There is plenty of shopping, as well as traffic. But it is central to everything. As far as neighborhoods go, Carle Place is nice, fairly blue collar area. Garden City is very nice but expensive. Westbury used to be nice but is going downhill, mainly in the vicinity of Post Ave and east. There's a large illegal alien problem in this area that extends down Union into New Cassel. Often there are guys loitering around and getting drunk, its at its worst at night. Many stores in the area gear to these illegals. They are always hanging out in the bushes at the Piazza at Post + Maple (I have to go past this lovely area almost every day).
Westbury is nicer north of the parkway, and especially west of Ellison Ave. Thats because west of Ellison is Carle Place schools. Home prices are much higher there and its much more desirable. East of Ellison is Westbury schools, which is why it's much less desirable. You can take a guess where most of the Westbury Village board lives
Mineola is also nice off of Glen Cove Rd.
Its a shame what has happened to Westbury, which is where I live. I will be moving out most likely by the end of the year, as my rent is being raised too much. Many rentals here have their rents raised so they can put more illegals in, since they'll stuff 20 guys into a house which used to be divided into 2 or 3 apts. Basically they rent so high that people cant afford it except to stuff men in what used to be a 1 or 2br apt.

Carle Place isn't bad, though.

I agree, Carle Place is pretty nice, and one of the communities I am thinking of moving to if I cant find anything on the south shore near the LIRR.
