We currently live in NYC and are looking to move to a house in the suburbs. We are looking for the following
1. Budget is 1 to 1.1MM.... Can stretch to 1.2MM
2. Easy commute to NYC .. Not more than 60 mins
3. Walking distance to train statiion
4. Great school district
5. Culturally diverse neighborhood
6. Relatively newer construction 2000+
We are looking anywhere in tri state area and think Roslyn, Roslyn heights, albertsons might be a good fit. Would appreciate if other forum members can adivise.
I would hardly call either Manhasset or Garden City diverse, nor will you find newer construction in that price range.
I agree that manhasset and garden city are not diverse. That's why I selected Roslyn heights and albertson... Not sure how diverse they are but they are definitely more diverse than garden city and manhasset.
Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, Oceanside fit the bill. Valley Stream is also culturally diverse.
On the North shore, i would only recommend Port Washington for diversity and train station access. The town has a good mix of different socio-economic and racial backgrounds. Manhasset, Great Neck and Roslyn have a more "snooty stuck up,old white guy, WASPy" vibe to them so i would cross them out in terms of diverse people.
Roslyn Heights north of the Parkway is 51% White and 49% Minority which is even more diverse(Out of the 49% Minority: 25% Asian, 10% Hispanic, 13% Black and 2% Other).

I assume culturally diverse under those parameters means white, jewish and asian.
