Would it not be safe to assume that everyone on LI is aware of the situation currently upon us? We are cognizant of the fact that lines are down, trees are fallen or hanging, and poles should be avoided?

It takes common sense to avoid the area. It takes one man to secure it and stand guard.

It would take several crews to begin repairing those poles, not to mention the de-energization process somewhat outlined in my original post. Simply put, there are higher priorities. If you feel it's such a safety issue, call it in. Someone should be watching it. But send 5 crews to fix a dangling pole in an area already with lights and see how people react.....

It's a process.
Apparently you didn't read where I said earlier that I just got off the phone with LIPA about these very issues..

Is there some syndrome where someone has an agenda, in this case calling anyone who criticizes LIPA a crybaby, that causes them to selectivly miss obvious statements that the person they are trying to discredit has made?

It's hard to believe to me that an obvious safety issue like this isn't a priority. I didn't pester the woman on the phone even though I got stock "we're working on it" responses because I realize they are getting blitzed, but leaving a telephone pole dangling for 3 days makes LIPA look not so good in my eyes.

Uh, hello?

Good thing you're hiding behind that troll identity, because that may be the dumbest post I've read on C-D to date. With some of the winners posting here, that's no mean feat... GTFO

Show me where I called anyone a crybaby, or quoted your post that you called it in. I see it now. Thanks for clearing it up. I responded to the whole thread in general, and not in a combative tone, mind you.

Is there some syndrome that your middle school special ed teacher () couldn't cure that makes you miss valid counter-statements such as MAYBE LIPA ALREADY ASSESSED THIS or THERE ARE HIGHER PRIORITIES or THERE ARE SO MANY SITUATIONS LIKE THE ONE YOU DESCRIBED THAT COMMON SENSE AND VIGILANCE ARE YOUR FRIENDS RIGHT NOW?

I didn't think this was a pissing match. Be that as it may, it's hard for me to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

Good day sir.

Local idiots are driving under it. The SCPD can't do anything as they aren't breaking any laws, however the local precinct did cite that in another town within the precinct an idiot went under a leaning tree, brushed it, and now that tree is laying on said idiot's car.

The fire department put up caution tape. Local idiots drive under the tree, break the tap, stop, get out, remove the tape and throw it on the ground, get back into car and drive off. In the time it takes for them to do that, they can turn and safely exit the neighborhood without passing under a tree which is being held up only by utility lines.

Going back to the OP -- take a ride out here and look at all the side streets -- there are trees down everywhere! Anything involving an electrical line can not be touched until LIPA has cleared it. Given there's only a finite number of LIPA (and out of state) crews working on this very LONG Island, it is going to take time. I consider myself fortunate to have my power back on within 3 days -- I was prepared for at least a week or more.

And if the OP really needs something to put this into perspective -- take a look at the flooding in VT -- Brattleboro is getting supplies dropped in by helicopter as there is no way to drive into the town. Being without power for a day in Westbury is a cakewalk. Move on.
Love it! The idjit deserved that one.
Crazy people! They're gonna end up causing even more damage or even personal harm. Anybody have a junker car(s)? Put DANGER LIVE WIRES signs in the windows and partially block the road a safe distance from the danger zone. Of course, you'd need to remove it asap when/if utility crews come around.

Glad to hear that your power is restored. My hubby rigged the burner to run off the generator so we could quickly shower & wash dishes. Nice to feel truly clean again, ain't it?

I'm surprised there haven't been catastrophic car accidents to. 95% of people are being courteous, but yesterday my wife had a guy (in a BMW of course) blow around her on the right while she was waving someone else through a major intersection that all the non-Pr*** were treating as a 4 way stop sign. The guy just missed t-boning the car that was let through.
