According to the Suffolk County Planning Department, it's the Hamlet of Remsenburg-Speonk, and I have real serious doubts that it is the most exclusive area in the Hamptons.

Back when I lived in East Hampton, the pecking order was:

Bridgehampton (was the wealthiest Hampton)
Southampton
East Hampton
Amagansett
Water Mill
North Haven
Sagaponack

The rest of the South Fork was considered "blue collar" areas: Montauk, Springs, Three Mile Harbor (now called East Hampton North), Sag Harbor, North Sea, Noyac, Wainscott, Tuckahoe, Shinnecock Hills. And anything west of the canal was not even considered "The Hamptons". It was considered "up island"! Interesting how places change.

There totally is a pecking order, it doesn't matter as much by town as it does by north or south of the highway. Anything with a south of the highway address is considered more prestigious by far.
By Highway, may I assume Hwy 27?

Remsenburg and Speonk are two separate hamlets.

and you obviously have never been there if you do not realize the beauty and exclusiveness of it.

Amongst hamlets and villages under Southamton, Shinnecock Hills and Tuckahoe are pretty close to the village of Southamton and have Southampton address. But they are north of the Hwy. Are those two more "blue collar" as mentioned by XLIGuy?

Any town, village, hamlet, area, etc etc w.e anybody on this board wants to call it that is within the town of Southampton, Is very nice and upper upper middle class in its worst spots.

I'm pretty sure Walter has been there. Currently there are several properties in Bridgehampton and Water Mill that are two bedrooms or better yet a vacant piece of land for 2 million plus.
Remsenberg is lovely, but it is NOT reflective of true Hamptons wealth & lifestyle, you obviously have never been to a real Hamptons estate.

Yes I have, and Remsenburg is more stunning, Simply because the houses are small, normal, and nothing too extravagant, yet the prices are still through the roof. Its Impressive, Also there are no stoplights that I know of...which means less congestion, And barely any stores/businesses. Its an amazing area compared to the rest of LI that has been overtaken with Urban sprawl and development. The main parts of the Hamptons you speak of are overblown tourist traps.

And as far as Walter goes - he also thinks people south of Montuak Highway in Sayville go to Connetquot schools

Seriously? Hampton Bays? I don't think a bunch of rundown rental bungalows catering to the weekend beer throwing crowd would be "upper upper" at all. Nobody will put that town in a pecking order.

That's the problem with places like Remsenburg - it's on the wrong side of HBays and it's an extension of East Moriches more then "the Hamptons".

Not according to the Suffolk County Planning Department, who, on behalf of the New York State Secretary of State, maintain the official maps of Suffolk County, and as accepted by the U.S. Census Bureau.
