I'm moving to one of the least crime ridden ones. Yes, this is a major reason for moving.
Crime happens everywhere but it doesn't mean I have to 'just deal with it' either.
Guess we've got different definitions of devastating? When I think of devastating I think of whole small communities ruined like you see in the midwest from meth, or Detroit from crack. Honestly, I know nothing about Bellport or William floyd (besides a parkway is named after the guy). I could only refer to my experience at the time in eastern Queens/western nassau.
I feel that a certain percentage of the population will be substance abusers no matter what drug is introduced. THey'll flock to whatever gives the best high at the cheapest price. Wow, who'd think they would be such educated consumers?
Some communities on the island certainly felt the effects of crack, but some were clearly unaffected. Detroit was a sh*thole years before crack, as were many parts of NYC. The blackouts and rioting in NYC under mayor Abe Beame in 1977 took place before anyone had ever heard of crack.
Sorry to say crime is everywhere......if anyone out there thinks by moving out of NY(long Island) that you are safe.....think again!
There are lots of real bad area's in other states that you don't even know about.....when people decide to move away, its always better where they are going......next word out of their mouth is ....can't wait to leave.

We have lived in Huntington for 10 years now and also near the train station and have never had ANY problems! Huntington is a great place to raise a family! Unfortunately, in this day and age nobody can let their kids run outside, dissapear to play all day and be home for dinner like we did. It doesn't matter where you live. Im certain that you'd be very happy living here in Huntington! Good luck with your decision!

I can only think of the occassional news reports when someone gets killed, and the HISTORY CHANNEL's GANGLAND series, which brings these Predators to the attention of people.
These vermin, who destroy our Society should be eradicated like the destructive, PESTS, they are !
