My husband and I were strongly considering moving out to Suffolk, where we would have purchased a condo in Ronkonkoma or Holbrook. There's a chance I may go back to school someplace in Manhattan or Brooklyn, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any condos in Western Nassau that were relatively inexpensive (max. of 250k) with reasonable maintenance fees. We looked at MLS and found many in Lynbrook and the five towns, but many had no pictures or little information about the buildings in general.
Also, which areas of Queens are decent for a professional couple in their mid-20s? We're not very fancy, nor do we care if it's near bars or anything like that. We just work and educate ourselves and are looking for temporary place to live for a few years.

Thanks!
For Queens info, you might be better off asking on the NYC forum.
SophieDaphne, in case you were not aware, oftentimes, the MLSLI.com lists a place's location by the community named in that place's mailing address, which is, more often than not, different from the city, village or hamlet where that place is actually located.
You can find out in which community (city, village or CDP) a place is actually located, which is oftentimes different from the community named in that place's mailing address, by using the Census Bureau's online address search function. (CDP or Census Designated Place is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.)
I agree with sallywed1, if you are only looking to live there for a few years temporarily while you go to school, then just rent.....why buy something and then go through all of the headache of trying to sell it and make a profit on it in a few years.....esp in this market.....
I rented in Astoria for the past 3 years with my wife; we were in our mid-20s. Loved it. Can't answer your condo question though, but I agree--if your longer-term prospects are uncertain, why not rent?
