relocating to the area , will i be able to survive on a base salary of 27,000 plus 5 percent of the gross profit which averages about 30k then i will get offered spiffs. I am a single male with a dog i found a place that will be about 1400 a month everything included, i do have a car. I am just curious they put around the 50,000 mark after all the commission. Does this seem average for the area

It's tough to tell not knowing your financial situation, such as car loan, student loans, what your expenses are such as are you a smoker (expensive habit in NY), if you're a big out to eatter, etc...

At $50k you could certainly survive as a single male, with no debt at the rent you stated including all utitlities but if you're into going out to eat and have an active social life it could be tight depending on your lifestyle.

I'm curious, what's your age and why are you considering relocating here? You can survive on that salary, but there are a vast amount of other states you could move and have a better quality of life at that salary.

i am relocating from Rhode Island , i have a car loan and no other expenses besides my dog which i will have to put in doggie day care a few days a week, to be nice . I dont eat out often or smoke. I am 26 years old i figure being young and having nothing holding me down why not move. My biggest fear is that with an average base pay of 27000 that its not a nice security blanket but then with the commission and incentives i think 45000-50000 should be acceptable. Before i accept this offer i want to make sure its an average salary , i come from a small area and they know this so i just dont want to get here and be struggling

Say let’s play the low end of your potential situation and say you gross $35K. This won’t be doable at that amount of rent. Based on the numbers below, you would be putting ZERO towards retirement and simply paying for your car, food, a shelter. If you have any interest in a social life, hobbies you will hate your life if you only make $35k/year.
Annual Pay of Annual Income of $35,000.00

Amount
gross pay $35,000.00
federal income tax $4,194.63
social security tax $1,470.00
medicare tax $507.50
state income tax $2,450.00
final pay check $26,377.88

Expenses
Rent $1,400 x 12 = $16,800
Food $ $300 x 12 = $3,600
Car/Insurance $300 x 12 = $3,600
Gas $200x12 = $2,400
Total: $26,400
Income: 26,378
Expense: (26,400)
Net (22)

If you are seriously considering the job for experience and to get your food in the door and expect better income soon after, I would advise finding a roommate on craigslist or roommates.com and hopefully find rent for $500/month instead of your own place at $1400/month.

i was like you 5 years ago..I got a new sales job that paid for my car, cell phone, gas... Boosted my take home salary higher than ever. Glad I didn't move out because I soon got axed for not achieving expectations...sales is rough when they micromanage you!
I was able to find an apartment for much less than $1400 and later on they said okay for a dog.
Maybe you should look for a cheaper apartment and then move in a year or two. Maybe by then you'll have a girlfriend or fiance to split rent with.

i know 1400 is high but everything is included including cable and wifi it has a fenced in yard and they will accept my giant breed dog in garden city ! its month to month though so i figure i will be able to hopefully meet someone to room with then that will save me alot.

I am just scared with a base pay going down to 27000 and a gross profit right now of about 20k that i get 5 percent is horrible i know they expect me to build the business. I will also get spiff and sales pots but its quite the risk....but i am thinking i am young and this is a great oppurtunity

I agree.

He also did not say if he has a CONTRACT guaranteeing him the small salary for a set amount of time ... at least 6 months to a year in order to build sales ... or if they can just dump him/fire him whenever they please if they are not satisfied with the amount of sales. Then he'd be stuck here with nothing. If it were me I would consider this not enough money to move to LI on my own UNLESS I was totally gung ho about my sales skills and prospects of the product. If there was no contract guaranteeing salary and employment for a term, I would never do it.
