Nassau one of the richest counties in the United States can't even stay afloat. This is what liberalism and unchecked public employee unions eventually lead to. Insolvency and bankruptcy.

Please stop making sense or you will be labelled a Tea Partier...if that doesnt work, they will skon fall back on the Blame Bush mantra.

Which is one reason I'm getting the heck out of here and moving to a place where common sense prevails.
Good luck in getting school districts to merge on a large scale basis.
If you want real change, you have to accept real change.
There is no earthly good reason why Long Island should have more than four or five school districts--and that is being generous because of population density, or I'd say one per county. Split the fish down the center until you get to a certain point out east for the tail. North Nassau, South Nassau, North Suffolk, South Suffolk, Eastern.
In fact, the whole state should be on a one-per-county basis, with exceptions for particularly dense areas like Long Island. Other states work on a county basis wherein the county IS the school district, and it works out wonderfully, with quality education, good teachers, yet no mob of administrators making ridiculous six-figure salaries, like Ms. Seaford with the $400K+.

I think you are confusing liberalism with corruption by both parties, particularly republicans and lack of oversight by tax payers. Gulotta was painted himself as a conservative no-tax-increase conservative, unfortunately he bloated the payroll with civil service cronies, Suozzi was a slight improvement. The good news is there are 8000 less employees now than there were 20 years ago, but the union contracts have not changed much.
I just visited Old Bethpage Village Restoration with my family. Sadly, 15 full-time employees have been eliminated from this wonderful museum including the farmer and the blacksmith because of his cuts. The flyers for upcoming events at OBVR bore Ed Mangano in bold lettering. Numerous flags flying his name waved goodbye on the road out; whatever the cost, it was a waste. This man is a shameless egotist who cares only about promoting himself and does not give a fig for the county or its cultural treasures.

But, see, people want all kinds of services provided by and subsidized by the government, but they don't want to pay for them.
It's time a few people here stop lying to themselves.

It is very convenient that people forget that the GOP machine controlled Nassau for sometime in the late 20th century, causing many of the problems the county faces today. Ten years of “bipartisanship” have not helped either, as both sides are really just jostling for position.
