And we're having a hard time finding someone to go down there to clean up.
There's about 2.5 feet height clearance, and no one wants to go down there, except for this 'basement-systems' company. They're hard sellers, and estimate is quite costly.
But I don't really have anything to compare it too, since no one wants to go down there.
Any suggestions to a company here on the Island who I can contact?

By "mess", do you mean water? Depending on what you're talking about, I may be able to refer someone to you, can you explain a bit more?

thanks, elke!
the water sat in there for a few days, but has since receded. it left a horrid stench behind - mostly in my closet. we had a mold test performed ($$$) in the closet, and it read as "condition 2" which implies that there is mold beneath the floor in the crawlspace.
so it'd be debris removal, fungicide spray to kill any mold, drying out, re-insulate floor from below, and leave a dehumidifier down there maybe. but that pretty much sums it up.
I would try a call to Servpro. Google them. They do this type of work and have a good rep
thank you!
just gave them a call. so backed up with work, they won't be able to come down until next week. but they are willing to work with the space, so that's good!
Servpro is an excellent recommendation!
Will send you the other company's info later.
I can ditto that from a friend who has used them after a pipe broke in her basement sending water cascading on her carpet and up her walls. They did a great job even to covering her main floor carpeting to remove the debris. Good Luck.
Why don't you ask your insurance agent for a recommendation? Even though it's not covered, they will still know who is reputable to use.
