Going to college upstate many years ago, they all called it "pop" but it sounded like "pahp".

Also found out that "heros" the sandwiches, were called "subs" up there. It seems to have found it's way downstate now as well.

Grew up near Buffalo and always called it "pop", it was a dead giveaway when you heard somebody in Buffalo call it "soda" that they were a transplant from downstate.

Also, I grew up with mustard on hamburgers and ketchup on eggs! Didn't realize until I moved to Long Island how "midwestern" the western part of New York state really is.

When I moved to NY from Kansas to go to college, I went to the Valley Stream theatre for my first movie in NY. Stood in line for ages at the snack bar and finally got to ask what kind of POP they had. The woman didn't know what I was talking about. I'll never forget it.
