Thanks for the comments guys, and sorry i didn't mean to hijack the thread to tangent about the SD but I think we are all on the same page here.
We're not talking about the far end of the SD bad spectrum, which fringes on the "dangerous" in the list that the OP gave, so to me it's really not a factor for me in this case.
Now, if this had listed the bad/dangerous areas, I wouldn't want to live there let alone send my kids to the schools there. It's not about education at that point, and getting into safety concerns. I wouldn't want to live next to a crack house no matter what SD it's in.
Unless you can afford one of the top 5-10 districts on Long Island and can stay out of the worst ones altogether, it's not worth nitpicking. And having sold a home in Garden City last year, no question I did way better than if I'd been trying to sell a mansion in CI. But again, you're talking about opposite ends of the spectrum. Not sure I'd go nuts calculating differences between NHP and FS.
Thanks Twingles, that's exactly what I was trying to understand. All in all, any of these towns/schools are in the middle/good range. That's all I needed to know.
Long Islanders can't take the SD out of the equation. It's a status thing...runs to the core of their consiousness.
I totally agree. As i agree sd matters, its all anyone ever talks about. If your ontop of your kids and their schoolwork, they will do fine in 80% of long islands schools. As for the op....pick the house and neighborhood you like out of your choices. All 3 sd are fine.
I agree, as long as the School District has decent academic performance then you're child will have a good chance at life.
A lot of parents fool themselves into thinking that they can just buy their way into giving their kids perfect lives but that's not true by any means. A thing came out a year or so ago about a heroin epidemic in a wealthy and desirable Smithtown school district followed by more exposures of heroin epidemics in other highly regarded districts.
It's all about raising your kids good! Some things you just can't buy your way out of..
If the Lynbrook house is in SD #20 then it's that one hands down.
I suppose Lynbrook schools are considered favorable - don't really know why, but they have always been a plus for the area. I'm a bit familiar with Lynbrook but I don't particularly like the part this house is located in - houses are tight, and not very pretty. The OP might want to check the south area, near East Rockaway.
