Sachem or Three Village?
Hello all!
I was wondering if any parents of kids in either the Sachem or Three Village school district could provide opinions on the district(s). We are on the fence about moving. My sons will attend Sachem East. I hear there is a lot of ghetto gang activity in Sachem? Any thoughts on that vs Three Village?
I'm a little concerned about how Three Village caters to their braniacts. What if my boys are just average? Will they get lower grades and be more frustrated in 3V than Sachem? Sachem seems to offer a lot more club and after school activities then 3V. I have looked at the school reports and compared numbers but they're just numbers. Also, how can you compare one of the largest school districts in the country? It's like comparing an apple to a watermelon.
Also, I'm concerned about the increased population of students in 3V high school. They must be going through growing pains no? We already experienced that here.
We've been comparing areas too. We originally started with all 3V towns but decided Stony Brook (N of 347, S of 25A) was more affordable and not so far from the LIE, shopping, etc. We currently own a home in Holbrook on one of the nicest streets with large property. We would like to upgrade but looking at the house prices in Stony Brook it would be a more lateral move so it all comes down to school district and personally, I'm not convinced that 3V is so much better than Sachem.
Ok, enough for now. Would love to hear everyone's thoughts. Thanks a bunch!

Sachem kinda blows in some parts.
3V is a factory for Westinghouse scholars.
No contest 3V
In that area H section is the best followed by B and P and S Section IMHO.

Two arrested in Holtsville home invasion case -- Newsday.com (broken link)
Isn't this Sachem?
The Middle of the Island is getting scarier by the minute.
Any questions?

Clamboy:
Holtsville is in Sachem. Sachem is a very large district. Some parts are very nice, some parts are OK and some parts suck. Overall I would say Sachem is still pretty good, but the rot has set in in various places there as well. The illegal immigrant element in Farmingville is spreading into the crappy areas of Holtsville and Ronkonkoma and probably the older parts of Holbrook. The canary-in-the-coal-mine test will be if the number of ESL students begins to lurch upward in the various elementary schools.
The best areas in Sachem appear to be off Patchogue-Holbrook Road in Holbrook; New England Village, Somerset, and Birchwood. But then again a kid got killed in a driveby shoot out there recently. Does anyone remember that from a few months ago?

I do...Holbrook still looks ok but the surrounding area is going downhill fast.
Either way the worst part of 3V is still more desirable than the best part of Sachem.
Ask any Realtor L/L/L

Thats pretty harsh clamboy. You really think that? I guess you do or you wouldn't post it. I have a couple of buddies that live in Sachem and they swear by it. I was never impressed with the area though - something is missing. I don't know what it is, but the area seems bland. Here are the graduation statistics.
Sachem East Graduation rate 92%
Sachem West Graduation rate 87%
Three Village Graduation rate 94%

Clamboy:
Not to be confrontational, just curious.
Give me some evidence of why you think Sachem is not that good?

I will not even get into an argument with the other two over this. Sachem east is a great school I have kids there. Nbres is correct, stay in the developments off patchogue holbrook road they are nice, regular people live in them. And they are not going down hill. I live in one. Three village I do not like the upity people they think they are better then you. We are very happy with east we heard some dope spreading the gang rumor stuff to. We asked my son who is a senior and he laughed . there is no real gangs in the schools. There was no drive by shooting some older kids were ripping off some others in a drug deal and they fled in cars the following car shot at the other and killed the driver. all were arrested and convicted. no matter where you go there is drugs sometimes more so where there is money. This is not a normal occurence. I have lived here for 15 years and have never had any problems, people walk the streets at night, little kids ride there bikes . As far as the schools go, head up to east and look around, see what they offer, they have all the activities you could want. now clam and nbres can let me have it even though they dont live here. P.S. just because portion road sucks in certain areas dosent mean everything in a 10 mile radius does.
