Nassau sees sewer system as moneymaker
Top Stories Item

Quote:
By the end of the year, the cash-strapped county intends to select a private operator to buy or lease its sprawling sewage treatment system.
So now Mangano wants to sell off our sewer system for a short-term budget fix! He says he is determined to not raise taxes!

It's also very interesting that D'Amato's client, Veolia, who has already won LI Bus, also has a waste management division ...

The only thing "guaranteed" will be outrageous sewer fees for Nassau County residents at the hands of a "for profit" private company who finds itself in the extremely powerful position of having a large population trapped in its monopoly.

The average homeowner in Nassau pays $225 a year in sewer taxes. With this plan, expect to pay that, and sky's the limit (a la LIPA and National Grid) per use fees from whatever private company gets the sewer system.

Raise taxes already, Mangano!

Pay per flush anyone?

Wonderful. Instead of going to needed services like this, our inflated property taxes are going to overpay teachers and cops and prop up wasteful layers of government that haven't been adapted since this was a rural area. Prediction - private operator comes in, charges more, provides lackluster services, and our taxes continue to go up.

If they continue to privatize, parks, sewage, transportation why do we need them, if not for those things what is the purpose of government other than to collect school taxes. If you really want to privatize something I can think of a few other county departments.

Love the pay per flush, I can see many residential wells going into business, do they ever have a well thought out plan that doesn't involve a D'Amato crony??

Slow day in the great state of Texas? C'mon -- there's no cow chip flinging threads? Or greedy politicians trying to tax aforementioned cow chips?
