Default Ronkonkoma or Lindenhurst

Hi again.

I just wanted to get some insight on these two areas, as we are looking at houses we like in both towns.

Which town is considered "better?" Which has the better school district?

Thanks!

I'm inclined to go with Sachem and avoid Copiague.

Well neither is a town... Ronkonkoma is a hamlet in the Town Of Islip.

Lindenhurst is a village.

Ronkonkoma can be a part of Sachem or Connetquot schools. I'd rate them higher then Lindenhurst

Lindenhurst is not in the copiague school district, it's in lindenhurst. The district does well in the ratings. It's a nice little village but I also like parts of ronkonkoma, my son almost bought a house there just could not handle the travel distance to his job.

Thanks, everyone, for your insight so far. I almost forgot about Lindenhurst's village taxes, which don't seem to always be listed on the MLS listing... hmm. Is Lake Ronkonkoma just as "good" as Ronkonkoma? There seem to be some nice houses in the Lake Hills section, which someone mentioned in my previous thread about the town.

Thanks again.

We'll in that case just avoid the 3 pages of Lindenhurst homes on MLSLI that go to Copiague and you'll be fine.

Im still inclined to go with Sachem.

If the house is in Sachem school dist. I would pick Lindy. Sachem is wayyy to big for my liking. Alot of Lake Hills section attend Connetquot schools which is a coin toss between Lindy. If I had to pick between the two I would go with the one with the less commute time.

where will you be working? These two areas aren't exactly close to one another.

All things being equal, I'd probably go with Lindenhurst...

New York State Standard Rankings for the High schools for 2007 (newest data available):

Connetquot: 161
Lindenurst: 145
Sachem North:109.1
Sachem East: 117.8

For Reference:
Ward Melville/three Village:191.2
Central Islip: 43

I wouldn't really call it a coin flip between Lindenhurst and Connetquot but Lindey is outperforming Sachem. Obviously anyone who knows the district knows that the areas increase in desireability as you from from South to North...Ronkonkoma, Bohemia, Oakdale, respectively, but the "worst" areas of Ronkonoma in Connetquot district are still good. The real area to be careful of is over by the train station, and that's Sachem.

the enrollments at Sachem North and East are still large but not crazy like they used to be before they built the new high school.
