The problem is the volume of planes that are now coming in and out of JFK...about 405,000 per year. Because of that the FAA is pushing as many planes as they can in & out of JFK and completely ignoring safety, health, & quality of life issues They're using new flight paths that never had the required environmental studies, flying planes at altitudes lower than required and allowing pilots to use unsafe 'Visuals' to find their way to the runways.
Their running a airport not a church.

I wasn't sure about safety concerns but the strong whiff of exhaust I got after a plane flew DIRECTLY over my house yesterday was pretty nasty. I got a vid of it too, but it was pretty dark...

Anyway, I think prolonged exposure to it has made Autoracer9 the way he is... How's that for a study?

so here's a quickie vid from the phone in my pocket at the time while I was fixing the christmas lights - 2 planes, exactly 4 mins apart according to the files' date-modified columns (454pm, 458pm). Imagine dead silence on the street then every few minutes these come through along with 30 seconds of droning each time which can easily be heard indoors.

planes (http://www.jfd10krun.com/temp/planes.wmv - broken link) (13mb) - you can start to hear it at the 20-sec mark.

Before the summer, this didn't exist. It's obvious why people have an issue with this. It's obvious who wouldn't.

apparently neither will your understanding of the proper use of NIMBY. It simply does not otherwise benefit us, like a cell tower in an area that has no coverage previously would, or an electrical tower. See the difference? But it's real cool that you're trying to learn new terms for yourself.
